Movie Reviews of Cowboy Bebop - The MovieMovie Review: Wow Summary: 5 Stars
Im usually not a fan of animated shows like this, considering that in all honesty the majority of these Japanese shows and films consist of corny childrens shows or even more corny shows of cliched personas going around shooting people alongside of slutty girls with cat ears and/or gigantic breasts. Im not to waste time or money on crap like that. And for everyone who thinks that if something is animated that it must be for kids has appearently never seen any japanese films becuase if they did im sure they wouldnt let their kids near it. But dont let the R rating worry you too much. This isnt one of those pornographic films japan seems to love so much. No, its simply like a regualar american film, just animated. Theres some violence, but its used in good moderation and the nudity isnt too bad. Faye gets her shirt cut off by one of the guys, and there is a scene of her in the shower, but trust me, you dont actualyl see anything innaproprait. I enjoyed the fact that the film was done maturly and stylish, and the animation seems to make it even cooler. To start, the animeation was AMAZING. Some of the best that exsists, im sure. And the visual effects were amazing, making you think that these characters were let loose in the real world and cameras were watching them. The story is one of those classic 'mr crazy bad man wants to destroy the entire world', but its done with such a differnt spin. the 'villan' is Vincent Volaji, a test subject who lost his memory from the experiments done on him. He believes that life is purgatory and his goal is to realease the world from this purgatory and to face judgement. The title 'Knocking on Heavens Door' is so perfect taht it couldnt have been better. the entire movie is based on vincent and as he calls it 'the door between heaven and hell.' Vincent's chracter is incredibly deep and philisophic and makes up for much of the amazing quality of the film. He was prbably my favorite part. The action scenes were increadibly well-cheoriographed, like they had been cut from Kill Bill or a Jackie Chan movie. Even if you dont like this kind of thing im sure you could find something you could like. This isnt a disney movie and this isnt a pokemon movie either, so keep that in mind.
Movie Review: Surprisingly Good Animation Summary: 5 Stars
I only had to see a few episodes of Cowboy Bebop to fully appreciate it - and just as I did it went off the air. So, hoping to feed my new-found addiction, I bought this movie and (I'm glad to say) feed-the-addiction it did. The story of the movie is the same setup you might find in one of the shows - it takes place on Mars, a terrorist hijacks a chemical warfare agent and sets it loose, in the process putting a giant bounty on his head. Who else but Spike and the gang would take the job? I expected this movie to be flawed majorly someway or another throughout watching it as most other animated films seem to be, but I was left amazed at how fluid some of the scenes were portraid. The fight scene between Spike and the ISSP (the interplanetary police) agent was simply amazing, not to mention every other awesome action sequence. The characters react to things the same way you might find someone in real life doing (with the exception of maybe Edward, of course), and it really comes off more like an actual movie than animation. Even my brother and Dad, who specifically claimed to not like the whole 'anime' craze, really got into it. The music is excellent from start to finish and really fits each scene (there's even some jazzy sounding tunes for those who have seen the series). Also, the story doesn't get as mind-boggling as usual Japanese cartoons seem to get these days. There are a few references made to purgatory, and a slightly confusing dialogue about beans between Spike and an Arabian looking dude, but other than that it's fluid and easy to follow. (On a side note, I'm not quite sure why they gave this an 'R' rating. The language is slightly bad, but there is no actual blatant nudity, or intensely bloody scenes.) The DVD itself also came with some cool features. You get to see the real life likeness of each character (Japanese and American) with character analyses, a few music videos, and some really cool storyboard sequences. So, wrapping things up, I have to say this is a 'fantabulous' (for lack of a better word) movie and DVD. I recommend it for fans of the show and the average person alike - it'll definitely surprise you.
Movie Review: Recipe for a delicious Cowboy Bebop Stew... Summary: 5 Stars
See the other reviews to read about how great this movie (and the show) is. This review was written to give those new to Cowboy Bebop an idea of how to go about watching the series and the movie.
Step 1: buy the perfect sessions and the movie from the new and used section of amazon.com. they cost much less and are about the same quality as their higher priced counterparts.
Step 2: When you get the DVDs, watch the perfect sessions first, starting from session one and watching them in order until session 22. You don't have to watch them all in the same day, but try to finish them within a month.
Step 3: After you have watched episode 22, turn off your tv and go do domething else. Wait until tomorrow for
Step 4: Set aside at least couple hours (its a long movie), making sure you will not be interrupted, as you will definitely want to see this movie through to the end without having to get up and do something, like say, answering the phone.
Step 5:get a drink and a snack, in case you get hungry or thirsty. The drink preferably being coffee. Now find a nice cofortable place to sit with the bathroom nearby in case nature calls.
Step 6: put the movie in, turn the sound up, and press play. Enjoy.
Step 7:After seeing the movie, you may want to watch it again, turn the tv off and think about it, or watch the rest of the episodes. do whatever you see fit.
Step 8: go tell your friends about Bebop if they aren't already fans. then refer them to this little recipe. They'll thank you for doing so. If they are the type that don't like anime, show them episode one. it should get them hooked. if not, its their loss.
There. Now you've got a recipe for a nice, steaming bowl of Cowboy Bebop stew.Eat up. and remember that its not the meat that makes the stew, its the soup mix. (if you are haveing problems playing the Cowboy bebop the movie DVD, ie it won't get past a certain screen in the beginning, go to scene selection and select scene one. it should work perfectly.)
Movie Review: Are you living in the real world? Summary: 5 Stars
Since the original TV series was a such a phenomenon, even for non-anime fans, there just had to be a movie follow-up to it. Although like most films based on a TV anime, this one is a midquel taking place between Episodes #22 & 23 of the series. Usually, a movie like is either a sequel or it doesn't happen in the context of the series at all. This is a little rare to have a movie be like a "lost episode" to the TV series.
Set mostly on Mars, Spike and the Bebop crew are hunting for a terrorist named Vincent who plans to use a deadly nano-virus to wipe out everyone on the planet. Vincent was part of a team of soldiers from a previous war on Jupiter's moon of Titan that were subjected to military experiments in nanomachine warfare. This technology was later reused by a pharmaceutical company done in secret for the Martian government. Vincent got a hold of the virus, and is going to spread it all over the planet during a Halloween parade. Spike makes a reluctant alliance with the sexy Electra who is Vincent's old lover and an agent of the shifty pharmaceutical company, and she conveniently happens to have the vaccine to the virus that Vincent gave her without her knowledge. Together along with Jet, Faye, and some retired pilots, they manage to stop Vincent's plan. After all, Spike couldn't possibly die...yet!
The movie employs the same badass animation that made the series so great. Truthfully, it's only a little above the quality that the series had, which proves it's greatness to begin with. Everyone of the regulars gets some screentime, including the three old farts who frequently showed up in every other episode. Edward & Ein have a few magic moments too(beware of angry transvestites!). The climax is awesome too, even more so than Spike's final battle with Vicious. The soundtrack by Yoko Kanno is exemplary, with some hip opening and closing themes. This film also sports some of the best aerial dogfighting in an anime since Macross Plus. If you have the series box set, then you've gotta get this to complete your collection.
Movie Review: Cowboy Bebop The Movie is a CLASSIC Summary: 5 Stars
Cowboy Bebop was one of the first animes I have ever watched when I was about 8 years old, (as a naive kid) I used to watch the series just cuz the action scenes were so freakin' cool, but now that I'm older I can fully understand what they're talkin about. Cowboy Bebop is directed by Shinichiro Watanabe (Samurai Champloo, Macross Plus, Animatrix) one of my alltime favorite anime directors. What seperates this series from other anime series is the amount of diversity; usually an anime series is pretty 1-dimensional whether its just about mechs, action, romance but, Cowboy Bebop is very different from other animes. The one thing I like about Shinichiro Watanabe is that he isn't 1-dimensional, if you notice Cowboy Bebop is a mixture of 1)cool jazz music hence 'Bebop' 2) old western movies with bounty hunters hence 'Cowboy' 3)space battles like from Star Wars 4) and plenty of action and humor. This is why Cowboy Bebop is so famous because it could reach a lot of different people.
NOW the movie itself is incredible in my opinion, fans from the series should be used to the style of Bebop, the atmosphere, music, and even the voice actors from the series is the same in the movie except the only difference is that it is presented into a movie format. The story takes place like the series, the Bebop crew is after for money going for the smallest easiest bounties just so they can have enough money to afford some food, until a guy name Vincent comes out whose goal is to spread a virus killing all in sight, and the Bebop crew takes matter into thir own hands and plans to stop Vincent from doing just that. As always in Cowboy Bebop everything is balanced out very well the music by "Yoko Kanno" is as always incredible, the action and espacially martial arts fight scenes with Spike is always entertaining and you can actually learn somthing from just watching him fight. The story is exceptional, but It kind of feels like an extended episode from the series. The movie is worth a buy in my watch and deserves to be in everybodies library.
