Movie Review: FOUR STARS on Amazon??? Summary: 2 Stars
You have GOT TO BE KIDDING me; "Corvette Summer" is a complete piece of crap and this once again proves how skewed Amazon user reviews are. One person wrote that it's a "great film for all generations" or something of the sort. It's about a muscle-car obsessed idiot and a wannabe prostitute!
Mark Hamill was in his late 20s when the film was shot and is totally unconvincing as a dreamy high school auto mechanic. Annie Potts tries her best with a completely annoying character -- but this is not a fun nostalgic ride. "Corvette Summer" is a cheap, hokey, forced film with hardly a laugh in its entire run time. There is a weak / somewhat decent story about chasing after false dreams but this film doesn't have enough heart to gain any traction. Hard to believe Matthew Robbins directed again but such is Hollywood. Obviously, Mark Hamill blew his career with this lousy, unendearing performance. I give the film one extra star simply because it was filmed in Vegas in the late-70s.
Movie Review: Luke Skywalker is looking for a "Little Red Corvette" and falling for a hooker Summary: 2 Stars
After Star Wars became the greatest phenomeon in Hollywood history and Mark Hamill shot to stardom as the legendary Luke Skywalker, he returned to the big screen in a less known adventure film from 1978 called "Corvette Summer" Hamill stars as car loving teen who cruises around Las Vegas looking for his red corvette he made from wreckage and he meets and falls for a good hearted, but a little horny teenage prostitute wannabe played by Ghostbusters' Annie Potts. The two teens fall for each other and gets his hot wheels back. it's an okay movie, nothing special, but not a bad movie, I've seen much worse from Tom Green to David Spade. If you love Star Wars, give it a try for another film credit of Mark Hamill.
Movie Review: Fun movie from my childhood Summary: 1 Stars
I have very fond memories of this movie from when I was a kid and have never been able to resist it when I have seen it on TV. I was excited to get the DVD. Great movie for Mark Hamill as a follow-up to Star Wars and is just charming. Be warned that is very cheesy, but fans of cool cars should enjoy it. Great way to waste an afternoon.
