Movie Reviews of Cool World

Movie Review: Cool World is a Cruel World
Summary: 4 Stars

When Cool World was released, the Hollywood sign was modified. I saw this movie first in the theater with a good sound system, paid to see it at least 3 times, bought the two movie related albums, one traditional movie music, the other "Inspired by" which provide musical food as i worked my way through bands that appeared. Was not able to go back and compare music in the movie to inspired by. Noticed familiar music in parts of the movie. Sat in a nearly empty theater on a weeknight, with the screen filling the view, like sitting arms length to a 42 inch wide screen, my first reaction to the movie was Cool World was like the nightmares I had as a child, scary. Sent chills up my spine. I didn't like parts, have been to Vegas so many times, the Vegas parts don't seem real. But had to return and see it again before it was done with the theater run. It affected me each time. Combination of the music, energy, video. Cool World is one that is/should be a cult classic. It's not a romantic love story, only a little is shown of 'toon love and although Holly is desireable as drawn, she's the sort you'd want to stay away from in real life. Worth owning, viewing, but for adults, not kids.

This one is not batgirl or supergirl, even Poison Ivy is a better partner.

Movie Review: It was alright A 3.5 stars would be fair.
Summary: 4 Stars

I admit it this movie may not have done too well for alot of people and it may have alot of cristisisms but on the other hand it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be but I thought they could have added a much better storyline to this movie because it was pretty flat and this whole cool world place just comes out of nowhere created by jack deebs (gabriel byrnes) and man these cartoon characters he created are so creepy like hollie (Kim Basinger) is just a sex crazed cartoon character who wants to get laid with jack who created her and to me that was pretty messed up. And brad pitt plays the CW cop who got sucked into the cool world out of nowhere after his mother died from a motorcycle accident. his character was pretty much a cocky toughguy cop and a married man to a cartoon wife and makes sure that jack doesn't lose his virginity to a cartoon character since it's against the law in cool world.

Bottom line this movie was alright but it has a pretty messed up storyline and it smacked a 1 hour rush job making this movie and I don't know what on earth the director was smoking when he created this movie.

Parents please be advised this movie is definently not for children and it's not another great rodger rabbit movie either.

Movie Review: Not a classic but my favorite.
Summary: 4 Stars

Sure this movie didn't do too well for many viewers but for me I kinda grew up on violent cartoons such as looney tunes and tex avery. This movie is I guess people would say roger rabbits sick twisted cousin, I loved cartoons like insane vilolent ones since I was a child and this movie has it all but parents don't be fooled it's not for children, I mean these are the most disturbing cartoon characters you would not want your children to watch.
Ok now to the story, It's pretty much poorly executed with this whole idea of the existance of cool world and jack deebs (gabriel byrns) who created the cool world is a prisoner of his cartoon world and frank harris (brad pitt) is some sort of arrogant cool word cop keeping an eye out for holie would (kim basinger) who is a creative cartoon character wanting to lose her virginity to jack deebs. Now the story seems like a good idea but the plot makes no sense I mean it happens too fast in this movie, I mean in this movie it's more like roger rabbit meets sex and the city.

Any way I can't recommend this movie to alot of viewers but if you love looney tunes or tex avery then this movie might be for you.

Movie Review: Holly Wood If She Could
Summary: 4 Stars

Cool World is a more mainstream effort from Ralph Bakshi (Lord of the Rings, Wizards, American Pop) than some of his other works but it still shows his genius.

There exists a two-dimensional world called Cool World. Sometimes our worlds overlap. In Cool World, humans are Noids and cartoons are Doodles. Brad Pitt is a Noid who has been stuck there for years and has been acting as a detective.

The villain (if you want to call her that) is Holli Would, a sexy, talented and smart doodle who wants to get to the Noid world. She plans to do this by having sex with a cartoonist who thinks he created Cool World for a comic book.

Pitt works to prevent this from happening as the results could cause the destruction of both worlds. But Pitt has his hands full as Holli is no mere brainless bimbo.

The effects are wonderful as cartoon scenery goes from drawing to prop seamlessly. While Cool World looks a little like Toon Town (Roger Rabbit) with its faces on buildings and twisted landscape, but these are not cute toons (although the Tex Avery-style wolves do make an appearance).

A fun movie with adult themes and unique imagery.

Movie Review: Let Holli Be Holli - And Me Be Me
Summary: 4 Stars

Well, the reviews certainly run the gamut with this one! I personally very much enjoy seeing this film, and continue to do so, whenever it comes on cable. It's not on my top-ten list of DVDs to get, but I'll certainly put it on my "Wish List." I'm not saying so much that this is a "truly great film," nor am I agreeing with the "complete waste of time," crowd, either. I just find it interesting at how quickly people make their declarations and seem to expect that everyone who disagrees with them are some kind of lower form of life, and if you don't want to be like *that*, then you'd better agree with them, post haste. I happen to have a pretty loose sense of humor, and am a bit of a letch (come on - who really isn't - deep down), and so this type of material appeals to me. If you're more the conservative, Christian Coalation, family values, Disney-type, then we can expect more severe opinions from you with regard to this movie, and that's okay, too. I'll make you a deal: I won't force you to watch it, if you don't try to prevent me from liking it. How's that?
