Movie Reviews of Comedian

Movie Review: If you know what to expect, you won't be disappointed!
Summary: 5 Stars

The people who are giving this movie 1 or 2 stars are obviously people who are just looking for Jerry's standup routine on video, and they are sorely disappointed. These seem to be the same people who mistakenly think Orny Adams (the up-and-coming comic featured as prominently as Jerry) is an egomaniac and 'full of himself.' In reality, he is about as insecure and tortured with self-doubt as a person can get. He is a very interesting character and I don't agree with the 'thumbs up, Jerry, thumbs down Orny' opinion. This is a fascinating documentary, and Orny's travails give you real insight into the world of stand-up comedians. Since it was produced by Jerry, he probably 'sanitized' the footage of himself. Orny, on the other hand, is shown in raw and sometimes painful 3D. I highly recommend this film for anyone who wants to learn more about what goes on 'behind the scenes' at comedy clubs and the sometimes tortured life of a comedian.

Movie Review: Enter the world of comedy
Summary: 5 Stars

I didn't get a chance to see this movie in theaters but it was Jerry Seinfeld, so I bought it on DVD. I was surprised right off the bat with the amount of extras there were for a movie that was pretty low budget. I think the movie trailer alone is worth the price for this movie. The movie mostly focuses on Jerry but it does go off on Orny a few times but its funny because he gets heckled and pretty much beat down on. The commentary is also great Jerry and Colin kept me entertained the whole time. I highly recommend this documentary because it's not like your average PBS special its like watching comedy the whole time there really is no boring parts at all. Check this movie out. On a side note, I was really disappointed with the lack of an insert and the fact that the disk is so bland.

Movie Review: The Art of Comedy
Summary: 5 Stars

This was an insightful and entertaining look at to paths to stardom, one works (Seinfeld), one doesn't (Adams). Orny Adams is not able to surrender himself completely to THE ART of comedy and thus is in danger of never attaining the ultimate prize, world wide recognition. However, Jerry remembers where he came from and who got him there, which is why he is a true master or in the words of Bill Cosby "The Willie Mays, Ali, or Bill Russell of his profession." This piece emphasizes the fact that this is not some impromptu career that these men have decided to pursue. It is a craft and forces guys like Seinfeld and Chris Rock to carefully plan their 'bits'. Kudos to Jerry for noticing that he is fortunate to be in the position he is in.

Movie Review: Excellent view of comedians as artists at work
Summary: 5 Stars

I just watched this film for a second time, and I notice that many of the reviewers here are bringing entirely inappropriate criteria to their judgement of this movie. This film is not a comedy, and it isn't particularly funny. "Comedian" is a look at the work of stand-up comedians: their struggles as writers and performers. You get a real sense of their emotional and career frustrations, of their conflicted relationships to their colleagues, and of the difficult business of developing their craft. As such, it is quite a rare item: anyone who is interested in artists (in any medium) is likely to find this fascinating, even if you have no special interest in Jerry Seinfeld or stand-up comedy.

Movie Review: Very Good
Summary: 5 Stars

This was a great DVD. Jerry is seen, "behind the camera." He is human, he does say things that aren't always funny. The DVD was edited beautifully by putting in all the clips in a way that put a lot of theme into the DVD. Being labeled as a, "slow movie," is descriptive, not derogatory. The film encourages interest and understanding into the lives of comedians and Jerry Seinfeld himself. It is a very classy film in that Jerry does not have to be the star everyone knows that he already is. Watch it!
