Movie Reviews of Come SeptemberMovie Review: September continued Summary: 5 Stars
Come September is a unique comedy, sparkling with the touch of the Italian summer, American opulence and oriental moods. A must see for people who love cinema and want to keep smiling. This escapist saga is about two people who are in love but cannot get married due to various reasons, the principal onebeing the hero's unprepared ness. Paradoxically, the time he really decides to tie the knot, he faces the most bizzare week of his life which leads to another September, god knows, how many more. The best part of the film is that it leaves a lot to the imagination, at at the same time guarantees that you go home feeling good, having spent some quality time. Icing on the cake is the beautiful Italian landscape , it evokes both a sense of grandeur and nostalgia, though Mulligan has ensured that the film does not become a tourist's guide to the south of Italy.
Movie Review: The best Darin/Dee movie, and showcase for his songwriting skills Summary: 5 Stars
My favorite of the three Darin/Dee comedies, the one where they met. It was Darin's first motion picture (aside from his cameo in Pepe) and showed him to be a natural and subdued actor with all the charisma he displayed as a singer. This charming classic romantic comedy also has an exceptional cast. The premise is very cute (described by other reviewers) and totally works.
It also demonstrates that Darin's considerable songwriting talent peaked when he was commissioned to write a song for a specific context, as occured in many of his movies. The resulting theme song here, Multiplication, has some of the most clever lyrics he's ever written. And we get to see him perform it in one of the movie's best scenes.
Highly recommended for fans of Darin, Dee, or just romantic comedies in general.
Movie Review: Yes Siree, you don't see many like that! Summary: 5 Stars
This is one of the best classic comedy movies. If you are a fan of Gina Lollobrigida, chances are you won't be disappointed and will get to see her beauty and superb acting in this film. If you are a fan of Rock Hudson, then you will be delighted to see his humorous act in this movie. Nothing can be added to make this movie better than what it is now.Come September is one of those very light, romantic, and comedy movies ever made. You can see this movie whenever you want a break from all the movies we get to see these days. If you will buy this DVD, I can assure you that you will see it many times and won't let dust settle on it like it happens to many of the DVDs on our shelves. Worth spending each and every penny on purchasing this title.. GO FOR IT! You will love it.
Movie Review: A Classic Comedy, and Deservedly So Summary: 5 Stars
Once upon a time a fabulous group of actors got together to star in a frothy comedy set in the Italian Riviera: Rock Hudson, Gina Lollobrigida, Sandra Dee, Bobby Darin, Walter Zlezak, Brenda De Banzie, Joel Grey. It was 1960, in America we were dreaming of Camelot, and in sunny Italy a new prosperity was making life easier for most people. Those were, indeed, happier days. I look at this film with tremendous nostalgia. Everything in it is just about perfect. Rock reveals his gift for comedy in a very natural, spontaneous way. Gina is absolutely stunning: a perfect beauty, an ideal woman. The locations used for the film, at Santa Margherita Ligure and Portofino, are breathtaking. A film I always go back to. This is a world I would like to inhabit.
Movie Review: "I'm Italian!!!!!!!" Summary: 5 Stars
A wonderful comedy from the 60's where innocents in film making was a pleasure. Finally seeing this on DVD brings back all those wonderful memories of see this on those old fasion super huge single screen theatres. Everyone that is in this film has more talent than any one single "movie star" out today. And i believe this is where Sandra really falls in love with Bobbie.
Rest in peace Sandra Dee. Your talent will be missed from a time never to come again.
