Movie Reviews of ColorsMovie Review: Dennis Hopper Had a Gem in His Hands But Missed It Big Time. Summary: 2 Stars

9/05: Although ambitious, Colors came up very colorless. The film might be too cliche for many themes and elements involved, so there was nothing new to discover. The performances of Sean Penn and Robert Duvall weren't wasted here, but their roles could have been magnified larger. Dennis Hopper lost his focus by taking a look at three different perspectives with a nowhere convergence. This explains why Colors had no clear central point and was divided into segments that seemed to be threadbare. In a retrospective of Hopper's aesthetic quality of Easy Rider, Colors would have benefitted a lot from that expertise by showing the stark environment of the L.A. neighborhoods where the gangs reside. Luckily, the movie was a breeze to watch with no snags. More often than not, Colors is tolerated while harnessing too much potential and failing to capitalize on it. Surprisingly, Courtney Gains is a gangster. That was a "gee whiz" moment for me.
Movie Review: hopper's coppers Summary: 2 Stars
maybe if it had been filmed 15 or 20 years earlier, this dennis hopper directed movie would have seemed revelatory; however, by the time it was made, we had already lived thru several wambaugh books (& adaptations), not to mention "hill street blues". robert duvall and sean penn turn in adequate work as the grizzled vet and the callow tyro patrolling the sinister ghetto streets, but the movie never rises above pedestrian.
Movie Review: not worth the buy Summary: 2 Stars

Movie Review: Not my kind of film to watch. Look quick for Mario Lopez Summary: 1 Stars
Almost fifteen years after its premiere, I finally decided to see this film for myself. It is not really my kind of film to watch. It was good to see Trinidad Silva again (May He Rest In Peace). I like Maria Conchita Alonso, but I prefer her performance in THE RUNNING MAN (1987). Why Dennis Hopper chose to direct this kind of film I do not know, but I liked him in NIGHT TIDE (1963). Look quick for a young Mario Lopez. There are no special features nor bonuses on this DVD.
