Movie Review: Do I Dare?

Well, as with all my reviews that I write, I have to first point out that I won't give anything away. I am not going to tell you how this DVD captures the organic aspect of the live Collide animal. I don't think I should tell you how this DVD captures the atmosphere of the show at the El Rey. I joke, and say if this DVD came with a scratch and Sniff Sticker that smelled of perfume, sweat, intrigue, dry-ice fog, skin, leather, lace, imagination, and excitement, then you'd have the show right there to enjoy in your own little part of the Universe. But you don't want me to tell you about that do you? I don't think you want to know either that this DVD is amazing. Maybe you'd like to know that I've never watched a live Show produced this way. Cameras flying through the air, close-ups of the band under different lights, different shadows and different film mediums, with the best of all being that for a brief moment you will get to see ME! (okay well that's not a reason to buy it, but hey now I can say I'm a legend in my own mind). Most of the shows I've watched on DVD never really capture the real thing. I was there at the El Rey and seen this show with my own eyes only to witness it from a different point of view upon watching the show again on DVD. Like the Hunted not only captures the show, it brings it to you in a way that makes it almost seem like you are seeing it for the first time. Okay so here is what you should know. You should know that this sound quality on this DVD is amazing. Everything is crystal clear. This production is unique in that it takes the viewer on a trip into the world of Collide from a Bird's Eye Point of View...literally. They film is done in different mediums, and with multiple cameras. Our storytellers, kaRIN on Vocals and Words, Statik on Noise, Rogerio, Scott and Kai on Stringed things and Chaz on the thunder-bringers are intimately defined. You can see them in all their intensity and all their humanity throughout the DVD. With a smile here and an intriguing glance there, you can tell that the members of the Organic Version of Collide (or as some would say the live band) are truly in a different place and trying to take us with them. Maybe it is because of the intimate setting of the concert or the fact that I was there to see it the show at the infamous El Rey Theatre that makes this DVD seem to me the very best concert experience viewed at home. I've seen many productions live and then on video and something was always missing from those. Not in this DVD. If you want to experience Collide, but missed them on their tour, here is the perfect opportunity. Not too mention, any fan of Collide will be blown away by Collide songs brought to us in different light and from a different angel. It's hard to categorize the sound of Collide and that is a good thing. If you don't know what I am talking about, pick up this DVD as a way to get acquainted with the music. For those of us that are Collide fans, this DVD gives us a chance to see the see the live version of this powerful band of dream weavers perform music that has captured our hearts and souls for so long. If you don't ever watch one minute of the film, listen to it, for you will hear something new, and different, something sweet, something intriguing, something sonic and compelling, something fresh, something that you can sink your teeth into. Like the sweet taste of a pomegranate off the lips of your lover, the music sets into your soul and provides a warm that will fill you up. This DVD captures that feeling and that experience. So did you really want to know all that? Of course you did. You know you've always wanted to see kaRIN sway and swing across the stage as she captured your soul with her powerful voice. You've wanted to see Statik tweak noises to capture your heartbeat and watch as Rogerio, Scott, Kai and Chaz brought in the rest of the sound to completely bring you into their world. Bud did I really have to tell you that? Collide will forever lead the pack and be like the hunted, always a step ahead and keeping the fans on their toes.
I should note that also included on this DVD is bonus material that will is rich in content. I won't give away all the secrets, because, really I don't want to, but if you get the DVD, you can spend hours watching, listening and experiencing Collide in a whole new way. Not too mention, you can ask yourself, "How cold was it in that studio?" That's it...
