Movie Reviews of Collective Soul: HomeMovie Review: Incredible, worth every cent Summary: 5 Stars
I had never heard a single song from Collective Soul before I, too, caught the Freeview on DirecTV in December. I was immediately taken in by the seemlessness of the band and the orchestra. There is rarely a weak moment in the entire concert with lots of great shots of all participants truly engaged and having the time of their lives.
Highlights for me are: December, Precious Declaration, Pretty Donna, and Shine. Especially poignant is the performance of Crown, a tribute to Ed and Dean's father, Pastor Eddie Roland. Many songs have spiritual themes and some have overtly biblical references, which were interesting to hear as well.
If you like rock, or innovation, or spiritually searching lyrics, then you will probably like this DVD or CD. I have both.
Movie Review: Just Some Personal Input Summary: 5 Stars
I.m not as old a fan of this band as some of the fan's here but i just had to say a few thing's! This dvd and concert are GREAT!!! I also have a copy of the free direct tv broadcast and couldn't wait to get the dvd! What a treat! I know that there has been some issues with some here about it so let me toss in my two cents. First, Ed Rollins is not just the lead singer! Without him there is no Collective Soul! He has written 90+ percent of all their songs. Personally i think he's a genius! Don't believe me?, go to any site that offers free song lyrics and read some!! Second, Yes Ed's stage movements "to some" can seem a bit "different" but they said the same thing about Joe Cocker!! GET THIS DVD, listen to it a few times. I"m hooked, hope you will be to! It's a GREAT HIGH!
Movie Review: A Collective Soul Experience Summary: 5 Stars
It is an unbelievable live concert recording with the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra. An amazing performance from Collective Soul makes this DVD a must-see for anyone who enjoys great music moments and especially for CS Fans. I've been following Collective Soul for more than 10 years; they just keep on satisfying people with beautiful songs, lyrics, live performances and most important thing "humility" with shinning souls. From the first moment I listened to their song "Shine" back on 1994, and how they played it at Woodstock 1994, I knew that band was going to be outstanding. They are still together and I'm sure they will always be. Want a great live performance from CS? Definitely buy this DVD to live the Collective Soul experience....
Movie Review: Best Live Cd I've heard in a long time Summary: 5 Stars
I love Collective Soul. I became a fan after the release of Home and I've never looked back. I now own every one of their albums and I love them all. This one is no exception! I love how they included the orchestra into their songs, it gave them such depth and it was great to hear them in a new way. When you listen to the cd it feels like your there, they did a great job of getting the energy of that night across the album to the listener. For newcomers to CS I recommend this album along with Home and Seven Year Itch, this will give you a great cross section of the past, present, and future of their sound. For die-hards like myself, this is a must for any CS collection! I also recommend picking up the DVD of the concert too!
Movie Review: Well worth it Summary: 5 Stars
After all of the great music Collective Soul has delivered over the years could you expect anything less than exceptional? I have yet to see one thing associated with Collective Soul that isn't a quality product and this just follows that recipe. Everything you could want in a DVD to make it worth the purchase is all in this package. The brilliant performance of the band coupled the talent of the kids in the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra make for an experience you will want to see and hear again and again. There have been many bands that have tried to reinvent their songs with the use of an orchestra but in my opinion none have done it better than Collective Soul.
