Movie Reviews of Coldplay - Live 2003 (DVD & CD)

Movie Review: never thought that i'd be buying a concert dvd...
Summary: 5 Stars

This one was one of my first dvd buys of a band in concert. And I was amazed. The dvd is amazing, and the cd that comes with it is great too. My only pet peeve is that the cd does not have all the songs that were included on the dvd, (obviously due to time constraints.) If you are a fan of Coldplay, or if you are just getting into their music, than this is a must have, trust me, you'll be hooked after hearing this.

Movie Review: What a show- double treat for both your eyes and ears!!
Summary: 5 Stars

If you usually like "Live" recordings, you will really like this. And if you're like most people and love to see your favorite bands in concert, this is an awesome concert DVD that you will enjoy time and time again. Hearing Coldplay's music is ONE thing, but SEEING it is yet ANOTHER. What you see only amplifies the intense emotion you hear. Taken from their '03 tour, this set includes hits from their first two wonderful albums, and also features never-before-released "Moses" and "One I Love". All in all, this is a GREAT package for the fans, and if you love Coldplay, then this will really make you smile!

Movie Review: Wasn't a fan until I saw this DVD concert
Summary: 5 Stars

I didn't know any of Coldplay's music until I watched this DVD, which a friend recommended. I am very grateful to him for making me aware of this band that I thought was just another bunch of young guys churning out 21st century formulaic pop. How wrong I was!!!
You know, I appreciate people's criticisms of this DVD--it does jump around in the editing a lot, but in my opinion it underscores the pace of the music throughout the performance. And what a performance--what a frontman. Such charisma. Contrary to what many people have commented about Coldplay lacking talent--they may not be vertuosic on thier instruments, but they play within themselves. Other bands that do this: U2 and Pink Floyd. Enough said.
Certain songs made me well up--Trouble is achingly beautiful, and Moses is one of the best songs on the DVD. It's such a wonderful song, with great chord progressions and very Edge-like lead guitar work. Many of the songs are indeed formulaic brit-pop (I think of other "Manchester-sound" bands like Oasis and The Verve) but they are crafted so brilliantly as to make you forget that they have the verse-chorus-verse-chorus-bridge-chorus-end structure. They write such clever songs that stay with you long after you've heard them. They get under your skin and you're happy they bounce around your head instead of some other crap that makes you crazy. 5 stars easily.

Movie Review: The Best Live Video Performance Concert Perhaps Ever!
Summary: 5 Stars

Everyone who has gushed about this DVD/CD combination has been far too restrained. Coldplay's melodies, musicianship, lyrics and overall sound are AMAZING!!!! The production values on the DVD regarding cuts, pans, scans, etc are top-notch.

Folks whose memory spans back to some of Zep's live concerts or perhaps to Yessongs will not be disappointed.

This band, this CD, this DVD totally rock!!!!

Movie Review: Don't knock what you don't know
Summary: 5 Stars

First of all I must state that I am an avid, almost obsessive fan of Coldplay so this review may be biased, but if you aren't also a fan, then why are you even thinking of buying the DVD?

That being said, this DVD is AMAZING. I have read the other reviews, especially the ones giving a paltry 1 or 2 stars. Or "starts" as someone wrote. The biggest complaints they have is the DVD being too much like a music video or nothing new when compared to the CDs. Some say Coldplay lacks talent, or that they are pro-tooled and can't stand on their own at a live show. I can tell you from a first hand account that this is entirely NOT SO.

I have had the privilege to see Coldplay play an intimate set at a small DC club before the release of A Rush of Blood to the Head. They are simply amazing, and Chris definitely CAN sing and hit his notes and harmonies. A few mistakes were made, but they were just laughed and joked about later on in the set.. in the no-glitz-no-glamour fashion that makes us all fall in love with Coldplay in the first place. Also, as a fellow musician, I can say that I believe they are very musically talented without the tools of the studio. And the flashy lights in Politik that viewers probably are thinking of when they call the concert nothing but a big music video add to the power and raw effect of the song.

The DVD captures the essence of a Coldplay live set. I can't stop watching it. When I first got it I left it in my DVD-Rom for a couple of weeks and played it whenever I had free time. I highly recommend this DVD for any Coldplay fan.. and even those who aren't fans, YET. The CD is also incredible. As a fan of live music, I give this set my seal of approval (which probably doesn't mean much to you readers, but if it doesn't, then why bother reading a review?)

Please if you own this DVD and think it's crap, sell it NOW. Someone else with much better taste will buy it from you and appreciate it as it deserves, which consequently, is more than you ever could.
