Movie Reviews of Coffee and Cigarettes

Movie Review: Excellent
Summary: 5 Stars

This movie was brilliant. Everything was i expecting from the trailers. Steve Coogan did twice as well as he did in 24 Hour Party People. Cate Blanchett's scene ,like ive heard other people mention as well, reminded me of something Peter Sellers would of acted out. Bill Murray and the Wu Tang Clang was rather odd but the i think a lot of the hilarity stemmed from the fact that Bill Murray was in a scene with the Wu Tang Clang. Each scene had it's own brilliance. I recommend also you find time to watch shows such as The Office for they contain a lot of the same kind of awkward silence and subtle humour as is in this movie. The subtle tongue and cheek humour and heartfelt ending may have escaped Lady Critical but anybody who enjoys a good laugh and good movie im sure will find it. The movie's goal in my mind at least is not to be artsy and deep , but to get a genuine laugh.

Movie Review: YES!!
Summary: 5 Stars

YES!! what a beautiful, wonderful, funny movie!! definatly for jarmusch fans..if you need alot of stupid hollywood action and romance, dont see this movie. anyways...roberto beningi gave the most hilarious performance i have ever seen(yes i think even funnier than dbl)...and of course TOM (not freakin steve EA Solinas) waits and iggy pop were hilarious...and it was awesome how the same conversation came up later in rza and gza's conversation!! only jim jarmusch can take 18 years of film and make it fit together so beautifully!! yes! this film is alot like other jarmusch films, like night on earth and mystery train..made up of short clips...the one strange thing i noticed about coffee and cigarettes is that it was all in english...but this was just as mind blowing as jarmuschs other films...if you like jarmusch see this..i CANT WAIT FOR THE DVD TO COME OUT !!

Movie Review: must have coffee?
Summary: 5 Stars

saw it and loved it!; 10 or so vignettes pieced together so that the venue of where the actors are consuming coffee improves, while the acceptance of both caffeine and tobacco wanes -- until the end --when it is rejected in toto. Each vignette is subtlely linked to at least one other. Our renowned director is trying to tell us to listen to one another -- the interaction is essential for the human being, even if the parties do not particularly like one another. Coffee and cigarettes are the life blood or conversation, or, are they? As the film moves forward we see that good social intercourse can take place without actually drinking coffee or inhaling cigarettes -- but that is because we once did. The final vignette summarizes the world and takes a drab, depressing locale and elevates it, existentially, to the highest peak

Movie Review: If nobody is acting it's not a movie
Summary: 5 Stars

Well I love most of what Jim has done so I'm a little biased. I found this wonderful piece of orchestrated voyeurism delightfully entertaining, subtly amusing and mildly inspiring. Some famous but off beat entertainers awkwardly paired, sitting in a nondescript but cinematically interesting venue drinking coffee, smoking cigarettes and exchanging a few awkward, funny, irrelevant, profound, benign comments - brilliant!

If you have ever enjoyed sitting in a cafe, wasting time with a cup of coffee and people watching you will understand my enjoyment of this flick. If you are expecting a scripted "movie" you will be disappointed.

Movie Review: Interesting Array of Performances
Summary: 5 Stars

A bit kooky at first, but definitely an intriguing variety of performances from excellent actors held together by an interesting array of bizarre dialogues surrounding one common theme, the tasty combination of coffee and cigarettes.
