Movie Reviews of Code of SilenceMovie Review: "If I want your opinion I'll beat it out of you" Summary: 5 Stars
When it come to action there's not many out there who can compete with the mighty Chuck Norris. He's been a Sid favorite for so very and offered up a very overdue viewing. Last year we devoted to our red bearded powerhouse and put him slightly on the back burner while we focused our efforts elsewhere in the B world to kick off 2010. No matter what our film strategy becomes there's only so long you can keep Chuck out of the mix. Eventually he will just kick down your front door to reintroduce himself as the ultimate action hero of the 80's and 90's. Honestly he proves time and time again that there really isn't anything better then a Norris action flick. No wonder he's the only action star with a world of hilarious facts written about how awesome he is.
In Code of Silence Chuck plays morally conscious and honest Chicago cop Eddie Cusack. In addition to striking up fear in every Chicago based crime syndicate, Eddie is also taking huge steps toward unveiling a wicked police cover-up. If there's one thing Norris doesn't tolerate it's "lying to the sheriff." Once he keeps true to his morals against the police force they all turn their back on him except for his buddy Dorato played by Dennis Farina. The on-screen chemistry between Norris and Farina is electrifying placing itself in the same realm of great duos like Swayze and Mcqueen. Despite being outed by his force Eddie keeps hot on the trail of a dangerous drug ring he must destroy with his bare hands. He becomes a one man army, with a little help from a robot cop called The Prowler," and closes out the film in a victorious blaze of explosions and laughter.
Obviously for us Code of Silence is an action packed 5 star extravaganza that we recommend everyone see at least once. It's vintage 80's Norris with a** beatings and life lessons to be enjoyed. It's really a wonder how they didn't team up Norris and Farina for a whole line of cop actions. You could tell that something special was happening as every scene they played together was nothing short of genius. But no, instead of Farina they wind decide to team him up with a sheep dog and corny dialogue. It's unfortunate that Sid isn't able to express his thoughts and concepts with the movie executives because there's a stocking full of gold plated diapers to be distributed.
Movie Review: Arguably, Chuck Norris' Best Summary: 5 Stars
Code of Silence offers an excellent synergy and balance often missing in action films--especially other Chuck Norris action films.
I agree with other reviewers that this film perhaps showcases Norris' finest acting. Yet he is very well cast as the lone, honest, resolute and uncompromising "good cop," Cusack, who confronts Columbian drug lords, the Mob and a dirty cop in his unit, all with equal aplomb--and comes out the winner in the end, even in the face of mounting, and nearly overwhelming, odds.
The fight scenes are well choreographed, too, with Norris delivering compact, effective and believable punches and kicks. He even takes a few himself, portraying a character capable of taking it as well as dishing it out.
For all the no-nonsense heroics, Norris manages to keep his tacit characterization very human and believable. In brief, Chuck Norris plays the quintessential Hero: committed to doing the right thing, and transcending himself in the process. I found the absence of token, gratuitous sexual content, or even sexual innuendo, refreshing indeed, and serving well to further signify and solidify the true heroicism of Cusack.
In addition to the excellent on-location filming, there are also well-placed touches of humor and tenderness that make this gem of an action-drama shine with exceptional luster.
Even if you are not an avid Chuck Norris fan, Code of Silence may make you sit up and take appreciative notice of him. File under "Top Shelf Police Action" on your DVD rack. This film is one of the best in the genre.
Movie Review: Chuck's best flick Summary: 5 Stars
This is Chuck Norris at his best...Being a B-level action hero(after such A-level icons as Charles Bronson Clint Eastwood, and Slyvester Stallone)most of the Norris output was commonplace, with Karate and Kung-Fu taking up a lot of the on-screen action..Here Norris plays a cop in Chicago who is confronting not only a drug cartel, but corruption within his own department..Norris limits the kung-fu moves, and gives what is for him a stand-out performance, battling the bad guys while trying to sort out who is and who is not corrupt on the force...Another plus is the score for this film, written by David Michael Franks, who scored many of the early Steven Segall action films..If ever a gritty, funky, streetsmart jazz score blended perfectly with the on-screen action this was it..When"Code of Silence"came out in the theatres a soundtrack album of this score was released, but on a small independent label..no compact disc version has ever been released, which is a pity..
Movie Review: Norris' Best Film Summary: 5 Stars
Code of Silence is by far Chuck Norris' best film. Not only is it great by the standards of his martial arts action films, but is actually a cut above many action pictures.
Norris plays a Chicago cop who finds himself caught between a turf war between the Mafia and a Colombian drug cartel. His standing on the force suffers at the same time because he testifies against two cops who are involved in a bad shooting. The Code of Silence ends up being double-pronged - one side being the Mafia's Code of Silence, and the other being the police force's Code of Silence against bad behavior by their own.
Directed by Andrew Davis, who also directed Above The Law, Under Siege and The Fugitive, Code of Silence has great action sequences and a great villain in Henry Silva. This is Norris' finest film. Nothing he has done before or since has been anywhere near as good.
