Movie Reviews of Classical Pilates Technique: The Complete Universal Reformer Series + Archival English & Spanish (2 DVD Set: Introductory Basic; Basic; Intermediate; Advanced; Super Advanced; Archival)Movie Review: Awesome series, amazing value! Summary: 5 Stars
First off, let me speak to the value of this DVD set: You are getting a whole lot of bang for your buck!
I have 5 of the original Stamina Reformer videos (plus one that came with the very first home Reformer or "Performer" I purchased over ten years ago) that each contain ONE workout. All together, the 5 videos cost $150 plus S&H back then, and I believe still sell for $29.99 each.
For less than the price of one of those videos you can get this set, that shows the entirety of the Reformer Series, Introductory all the way through Super Advanced. And although I liked the Stamina workouts well enough, I have to admit I like these better. With these, I learned some new moves, such as going head first into the well with The Tree, that are not only tough, but very beautiful.
One little suggestion I have for some of the (head)"going into the well" moves is to use a spotter, particularly if you're a newbie at the move, just in case you slip off the box or out of the strap, especially if you use a different Reformer model than is featured in the DVD. I have a Stamina Home Pro which I like but is designed just a little differently. The first time I went into the well on the Tree, I slipped on the box (I don't have a gripper pad like they use in the DVD) and almost lost my footing in the strap, and it was just a little scary to think of crashing head first onto the floor!
With that said, I love these DVD's. I love the workouts and have even tried a few new moves-- that is, besides going head down into the well on the indicated moves which, besides the almost-mishap I had, is new for me and I think is absolutely cool-- like the Snake and the Twist because they were so interesting, I couldn't just sit on the couch and watch them as I intended. I had to try them!
This DVD set, in my opinion, is by far, the best of the Classical Pilates Technique series. Or to put it more simply, it is the best of the best.
