Movie Review: I'm a People
Summary: 5 Stars
I was almost too terrified to see it. I remember, uncannily, so very clearly, being 5 years old in my bedroom with the Cinderfella LP, conducting the big "air" orchestra with the Cinderfella conducting baton. Turn it on. My movie memories were hazier, a lot hazier, and I was troubled about taking a very precious childhood memory and possibly killing it flat by seeing it half a century later. That's not because I don't conduct imaginary orchestras anymore, actually I still do, and maybe that's what I was troubled about preserving. Anyway. The movie retains all the magic I could have desired. I saw the stamp of Tashlin and I watched the mark of Lewis but this one is different. It's actually very simple. As in elegant. And, considering it, what an audacious picture to have made. I mean, the big deal payoff scene is Jerry Lewis dancing to the Count Basie Band. And, damn, if that wasn't magic. No way, they do not make 'em like this anymore. This is a valentine from another planet, jack.
