Movie Reviews of Christmas in Connecticut

Movie Review: DVD Coming November 8, 2005!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I absolutely love "Christmas in Connecticut." It is loaded with old-fashioned charm, comedy, coziness, and warmth--and you just don't find that in movies anymore. Today's holiday movies tend to be smarmy, cynical, and just plain tiresome. If they attempt any warmth at all, it usually comes off as pure cheese. You'll find none of that in this movie; just sit back and enjoy--and see if contentment doesn't spread over you like a warm blanket.

But the main reason for this review is to happily announce that Warner Brothers will finally be releasing the original 1945 classic on DVD November 8, 2005! They released the horrid TV-movie version last year (Who knows what they were thinking!), but now we'll get to experience the REAL THING! Thank you, Warners!

Movie Review: Another fun Christmas movie
Summary: 5 Stars

I saw this on Turner Classic Movies and immediately ordered it to add to my Christmas movie library. It's not one of the "classics", and probably doesn't deserve to be, but it is fun and easy to watch with performances from some of old Hollywood's great character actors like the unsung Dennis Morgan. I have grown to admire Barbara Stanwyck's tremendous body of work and her range of type, and she puts some funny moments into this movie.
It's a smart purchase as you won't see this all over the airwaves, maybe just once on
TCM at Christmas time. The whole family can watch, thanks to the censorship in place at the time it was made. I put this in the DVD player as soon as I received it and watched it two more times during the holiday season.

Movie Review: love this classic!
Summary: 5 Stars

I had this movie on VHS and recently replaced it with DVD because I just have to watch it every Christmas. Think of a classic, old fashioned Christmas set in the snow-covered countryside, sleigh rides and sleigh bells, homey kitchen scenes and imagine those good smells coming from it. And such a cute, light-hearted story full of romance. If you like old, black-and-white movies and ones that make you feel good, you will like this to put you in the Christmas spirit. With Barbara Stanwyck and Sidney Greenstreet, it can't compare to the later version. Highly recommended! Christmas in Connecticut

Movie Review: Barbara Stanwyck is perfect...
Summary: 5 Stars

...as she plays Elizabeth Lane. A smart, bold, writer for a Smart Housekeeping column, she provides hints and information on how to cook, clean and keep a well run household. But in real life she can't boil an egg.
But now her boss has decided to invite a returning war hero to her farm in Connecticut. To enjoy her good food, her happy family and her wonderful farm. Which does not exist outside of her column. This is Barbara Stanwyck at her best; smart, funny, and beautiful.
The disc also has a short called Star In The Night, another Christmas story, which allows you to have two tales of wonder and joy on one DVD. This makes for a great extra.

Movie Review: Classic Christmas must see movie
Summary: 5 Stars

I have had this movie on VHS for a loooooooog time. It's one of the few movies I pull out every Christmas...the others being White Christmas and The Christmas Story. I love the zany story, S.C. Zakall, and the happy feeling I get every time I watch this movie. Sophisticated?...no. Fun and happy...yes! Because I've had this movie for so long, it evokes a great feeling of tradition and peace for me when I watch it. My daughters, now 10 and 11 watch it with me, too, now which only adds to the happy feeling I get when I watch it. Begin your own Christmas tradtion and pick up a copy of Christmas in Connecticut, too.
