Movie Reviews of Christine (Special Edition)

Movie Review: Excellent, but way too much was changed
Summary: 4 Stars

Well i just finished the book Christine last week. I was determined to find the movie. After searching for the last week, i finally bout it. I had seen it a few years ago when i was 10 or 11. Somehow i remember it being much better. But nonetheless, it was great. I do have a few problems though. Generally i dont mind things being rearranged or changed, but they cut out wayyy too much, and completly changed the ending. They practically swtiched Roland LeBays role and George Lebays role, but only partically, i was quite confused when i got to that scene. They also completely cut out the Lebay possession sub-plot, thus changing Arnies character. I was dissapointed in Micheal cunninghams role in this movie, first off, he didnt look like a thing like i pictured him, and his whole sub-plot with Arnie and Dennis was completely cut, and he only have about 10 lines in the entire movie. The biggest dissapointment for me had to be the cutting of the Dennis/Leigh subplot. THe ending was changed totally, also a disappointment.

However, i do like the rearranging of certain things, it helps the flow of the movie much better, the actors for Arnie and Dennis were perfect, too bad Dennis role was minimized as much as it was. The effects are AMAZING! even now, i cant imagine them being any better, and this if from way back in 83. The music is wonderful and perfectly fitting, Regina cunningham is just as i imagined her, her role isnt cut down too much though. Overall, i stil recommened the movie, one of the better movies based on a stephen king novel, i only say read the novel first.

BTW, their are 20 deleted scenes that i am about to go check out right now, therefore, their should be a good chunck of missing footage in it.

Movie Review: Not As Good As The Book But Well Worth Watching
Summary: 4 Stars

I'm not a real ardent Stephen King fan but have read most of his hugely entertaining early novels (those published in the 70's and early 80's) and I consider CHRISTINE to be one of his best. I came across the film version the other day and didn't really mean to watch for more than a few minutes but I was riveted from the opening scenes at a Detroit auto factory in the 1950's where Christine is manufactured to the unsettling final scene. The movie had to condense and combine a lot of material from the book but still remains relatively faithful to King's original plot. In fact I picked up a copy of the novel again and really enjoyed using it to fill in some of the details the film merely hinted at. One minor complaint is that the novel CHRISTINE took place in the Pittsburgh suburbs and director John Carpenter changed the movie location to California where it was obviously filmed. The acting from the mostly young and still not particularly well known cast is OK but nothing special. Music is very cleverly and memorably used throughout the film and really enhances the storyline. There are some gruesome deaths but the goriest of details are left mostly to the viewer's imagination. If you enjoy this movie you must read the book!

Movie Review: Underrated
Summary: 4 Stars

Horror maestro John Carpenter's underrated adaptation of Stephen King's novel is one of the better King page to screen adaptations, and it's one of Carpenter's most suspenseful. Keith Gordon (Back to School) plays Arnie, a picked on high school kid who gets the car of his dreams with Christine, the only problem is no one else seems to like it, and it's not long before various people start getting picked off. While it's doesn't stay completely faithful to it's more spooky source, Christine manages to be an all the more terrifying excursion into suspense. The visual effects for their time are good (including some nifty and creative camera tricks), and the finely chosen cast (including future Baywatch star Alexandra Paul and Harry Dean Stanton) do great work. Carpenter's effectively creepy score also works great, and it livens up suspenseful scenes. This special edition DVD includes a lively commentary by Carpenter and Gordon, as well as some interesting featurettes on the film's creation.

Movie Review: needs DTS!
Summary: 4 Stars

this is one of my favorite john carpenter movies, second only to halloween. it is also one of my favorite stephen king stories, so i have no complaints on the movie itself. the only reason i give it 4 stars instead of five, is because once again sony has rereleased a movie without given it the treatment it deserves, (at least as far as sound goes.) the picture looks fine, but there is no change in the sound. a movie like this deserves DTS. it would greatly enhance the sound of the engine when christine is on her rampage, plus it would bring out john carpenters score. it seems like the only time sony releases a movie with DTS, is with their superbit collection, which would be just fine if you could choose what movies they release in that format. o well, hopefully they will start adding DTS as an audio option more often in the future, or bring back superbit, christine would greatly appreciate it, as well as legend of zorro, and underworld evolution.

Movie Review: Love Cars, But Not This One
Summary: 4 Stars

Tell me that there's a movie about cars out and I can guarantee you that I'm going to check it out. A book about cars and on top of that a horror book? I couldn't have put anything better in my hands. I read this book in elementary school, as well as watched the movie, and it was like Happy Days gone all wrong. When that song blasted from the car speakers with no one touching it, my eyes shot open and I was glued to the screen. The movie is basically about a car that comes to life. The actual plot wasn't all that creative for me, but I loved the effects done in the movie. Very small things like the lights coming on all on their own formed my lips into a smile. I dug this movie throughout. Every blue moon when I pass a parking lot or when I'd drive on dark roads in small towns while in college, I'd remember Christine and change the radio station to something upbeat.
