Movie Reviews of ChopperMovie Review: Eric Bana - A Stellar Performance Summary: 5 Stars
I absolutely love this movie!
Chopper is an enigmatic strikingly honest and tongue in cheek view of a large part of the life of Mark Brandon 'Chopper' Read.
Since watching the movie I have visited his website and I encourage everyone reading these reviews to Google Mark Chopper Read and visit his site.
I found the link to his "Quotes" most entertaining!
Back onto the topic of Eric Bana and his performance. It is rare that an actor is able to immerse him/herself so completely in a character and be utterly convincing.
Bana does this with aplomb and must be given kudo's for this. His mannerisms are undistinguishable from Mark Read's. The way he talks and even ennunciates his words. The weight gained for the later years of Chopper's life lends even more authenticity to Bana's performance.
All in all a rather funny and honest look at the effect the press can have in raising someone to glorious heights. Whether deserving or not.
Movie Review: A Masterpeice Summary: 5 Stars
Australian comedian Eric Bana is Mark "Chopper" Read, a legendary criminal who wrote his best-selling autobiography, FROM THE INSIDE, while serving a murder sentence in prison. Beginning in the blue-washed light of a maximum security Melbourne prison, Chopper establishes his dominance with the impulsive knifing of a fellow prisoner. This is the start of this amazing movie. Eric Bana IS Chopper in this unbeilivable performance. Unlike Oliver Stones Natural Born Killers where Stones makes the killers way over the top and seem like everything is fun, happy, and cool this is not the case with Chopper. Chopper is a human just like you and me, he's just mentally unstable. In the end it's hard to like Chopper because of his violent actions but in the same sense is hard to hate him because of his personility and deep down caring attitude. Don't miss this great movie and DVD (great features, commentary by the real Chopper Read, and a funny interview with him) anytime soon.
Movie Review: Chopper Summary: 5 Stars
I just recently discovered this movie after seeing Eric Bana in Black Hawk Down and wanting to see more of his work. Chopper has turned out to be one of the most rewarding movies I have seen and is now in my top 10 all time favorite films. It is an amazing story about a truly fascinating serial criminal and is brilliantly portrayed by Eric Bana in some of the best acting I have had the pleasure of viewing. His performance is truly mesmerizing. The story is violent, but wickedly funny in a dark, warped sort of way. The accents are sometimes hard to understand, but stick with it for a few minutes and you will catch on and be very entertained. I have since shared this movie with several friends who have also become Chopper fans. We find ourselves continually using Chopper quotes from the movie. I highly recommend this movie if you are looking for something out of the ordinary. Sometimes difficult to watch, but absolutelt worth every second.
Movie Review: old chop chop, you cheeky dog Summary: 5 Stars
I initially viewed this with hesitation - films about an Australian criminal madmen don't usually appeal to me too much. After literally being forced to watch it by a friend, I did an about turn and found myself obsessed by the true life story, that of Mark 'Chopper' Read (played with an eerie, deranged determination by aussie stand up comedian Eric Bana, soon to be seen in the Incredible Hulk) and his life in and out of prison. The film is a series of semi fictionalised events from Chopper's life, peopled by misfits & low lives, shot through with the eponymous anti hero's warped but somehow (scarily) sympathetic worldview. The dvd adds to the genius by featuring a running commentary by Chopper alongside an interview with him from a couple of years ago. And yes, from the interview you can tell he really did chop off his own ears.
Movie Review: best movie ever Summary: 5 Stars
First of all, I am shocked that Eric Bana wouldn't be in the running for best actor at the time. Simply the best acting job I've seen in a long time. You would almost think he was the real guy.
The directing was awsome. The cinematrography was awsome, and the story was entertaining throughout the whole movie. This is trully one of the best movies I have seen, (and yes I think Shawshank Redemption, Empire strikes back, Raiders of the lost ark, are some of the best movies)the best. Anybody who knocks this movie seriously has issues with being idiots.
Even the extras in the dvd are great. You actually get to meet the actual Mark Chopper Reed.
The best movie
