Movie Review: An underated gem? perhaps so.
Summary: 5 Stars
for starters this movie as some others have stated is ahead of it's time, and by that i mean Innovative, Creative, in a time when most kung fu movies were incredibly simple (read: Boring/stupid/plot wise)enter this movie, and you will find none of those things apply here great story, the plot is somewhat played out, but hey, it's a Kung Fu flick not Star Wars.
characters are believable and it actually has decent acting by this I mean drama, not the silly stereotypical labeling (type casting) of some others. Above all this, there is imaginary weapons some of which look like they came from a Shang Chi comic book!(cool stuff)of course the way they use them is pretty amazing for the time (1982) i think? in one scene a guy is fearlessly fighting on.. even while his Intestine's is hanging out! WOW. these are the kinds of movies they need to do now days make them more colorful, less wire work and more REAL skill - am i saying everything is choreographed perfectly in this film? No, simply that you can tell they went through a lot of work in getting the scenes just right with real fighting techniques by both the kung fu artists and the Ninja (who BTW steal the show in this one)and no fancy stunts or wire-work you have to watch it, some amazing things are done in this movie personally I feel it is better then or at least as good as 5 deadly venom's (which i never really got into)bottom line their are many action movies like this to choose from, but this truly does stand as one of the best of it's time along with "Shaolin v.s.Lama" "Snake and Crane" (Jackie Chan)"Secret Rivals" the list go's on, so yeah - in summery Buy this. One if anything, it's Different from the rest in a good way. 5 stars.
