Movie Reviews of Chicago - Live by RequestMovie Review: Entertaining Summary: 3 Stars
A great Chicago TV request show. The band and the music is great. I would give this 5 stars if it were a straight through concert without the in between requests etc. The visual is great , although I found the audio mix not at its very best probably due to the TV studio set up, and Peter Cetera is most definitely missed.
Movie Review: great dvd with very bad sound Summary: 3 Stars
the dvd is great but the 5.1 mix is very bad if you are not a sound person it is great
Movie Review: Awful Performance From A Great Band Summary: 2 Stars
Anyone who saw this performance knows how truly awful it really was. Chicago is a great band who has the chops, but not on this night. Between screwing up the lyrics and looking genuinely uninterested, this was just a really bad performance. Add to that the fact that while this program was supposedly "Live By Request", when it should have really been called "Live By Request...But Only If You Ask For Something That We Really Want To Play." The "Live By Request" format is really better suited for solo artists or groups that have a great mastery of their entire catalog. It obviously is a format that wasn't right for Chicago.I know that fans of Chicago, like myself, are starving for video documenting performances, but don't let that hunger convince you to buy stuff like this. Wait until the band and/or their management deliver something that's worthy of being purchased. In the meantime, don't encourage them by purchasing garbage like this. I'm only giving it a "2" because of my respect for the band and the occasional decent performance during this show.
Movie Review: Chicago live by request Summary: 2 Stars
on 5.1 surround it sounds like your listening in a cave or tin can. Real disapointed in sound quality. Hard to hear vocals. Save your money and wait for the soundstage recording and hope it,s better
Movie Review: 'Feeling sadder every day....' Summary: 1 Stars
Fun to have a look to the oldies of this band. If you listen carefully, you find that still a bit of the fire of the old days is still there. Therefore the one star! The new players in the band are musical qualified, but they totally miss the own musical concept of Chicago. Terry Kath will always be an unbearable loss to this band and I really miss some special musical bass-patterns by Peter Cetera, although in voice he is substituted rather well. The voice of the organ player is really terrible: we call him the 'chicken farmer' here! Nice DVD to have and join the party, but musically it makes me sadder every day. I wonder if there still are some good tapes of a good ol' Chicago concert available that could be produced on DVD. Robert Lamm, I will keep my 5 stars for that occasion, I promise!
