Movie Reviews of Cher - The Farewell TourMovie Review: The one... the only... the incredible CHER Summary: 5 Stars
I saw this concert in person and was absolutely blown away. There is no other artist on this planet who can put on as amazing of a concert as Cher. Watching is like watching Cirque du Soliel mixed with an ultra-vibrant, flamboyantly amazing Broadway show topped of with all the glitz and glam of the Cher universe. In this concert, Cher mostly sings her greatest hits. She changes sets and costumes (and wigs, and jewelry, and shoes) almost every song, creating a neverending and fascinating visual experience. Cher looks amazing, and to put it simply... she rocked everyone in that audience and will rock everyone who watches the DVD. There's nothing quite like Cher so you'll have to see it to believe it. Granted, this DVD isn't like being in the audience, but it's definitely a must-see. Even if you're not the biggest fan of her music, you'll be absolutely amazed at the spectacularness and visual quality of her sets and costumes and background dancers and singers, who are very much a part of her show as well. An absolutely amazing experience. I only have one warning: If you ever plan on going to a non-Cher concert and intend to have an amazing time, then don't watch this concert! Cher's concert is so incredible that it will probably spoil any other concert you might ever see. Nothing and nobody will ever live up to Cher- as she herself proudly proclaims. This may be Cher's last tour, but she most certainly will live forever! "Follow this, you ------s!"
Movie Review: AWESOME! AWESOME! AWESOME! Summary: 5 Stars
Anyone who does not think Cher is the true Diva of all time is thoroughly confused and misinformed. She paved the way for all the other wannabes....except she did it with class not crass like....ahem...Madonna, Britney etc. There is only ONE authentic diva and it is Cher. This is a brilliant overview of her career and shows her many faceted sides. A tender memory of "Sonny and Cher" included in it. This perfomance starts with Gayatri Mantra that, if you look it up....is the goddess of music and the arts etc, and tells of the link between all life (as does her song "A Different Kind Of Love Song", MANTRA: Aum Bhur Bhuva Svah Tat Savitur Varenyam Bhargo Devasya Dhimahi Dhiyo Yo Naha Prachodayat O Lord, You are the protector of life and of breath, dispeller of miseries and bestower of happiness. You are the creator and the most acceptable intelligence, possessing eternal qualities. May Your qualities and Your inspiration pass to us. This is truly a gift from Cher..but you have to research that mantra and see what else it says to see the connectedness to Cher and her life and this performance. It is not mentioned on the video...but being I have to know the purpose everything and what the relevanceis...I knew Cher was saying something to all of us so of course I looked it all up. Awesome costumes , awesome dancers and performers...AWESOME PERFORMANCE!
Movie Review: Another Cher Fan for RICO Summary: 5 Stars
For my own understanding of all the points that Madonna defenders are trying to make, it would be helpful if they learned to write and spell in English--and to make a complete sentence and thought. This review page is dedicated to Cher's farewell tour, but many people continue to bash Cher and praise Madonna on it. To answer some of the questions that Rico claims cannot be answered, Madonna has sold millions and millions of albums all over the world because she is a marketing wizard. She latches onto the "sound du joir" and "producer du joir", and the world flocks to her sound--although it is refreshing to see the rejection of "American Life", which Madonna obviously gave zero thought in creating. Huge album sales do not make someone a diva, my friend. Album sales are a reflection of one thing: Madonna's ability to ride whatever is the "wave of the day". I've said it before: Cher is REAL. Madonna is....well, no one knows who she is because she is never genuine. She is always affected, always trying to push buttons and cause controversy--always trying to do "whatever" will keep her in the limelight. Cher has never had to resort to this desperation. She is true to herself and to her fans. That is something I am still waiting, after 20 years now, to see Madonna do.
Movie Review: Let's set the record straight on "Divahood" Summary: 5 Stars
This is in reply to the reviewer who likes Cher, but claims that Madonna put the "D" in Diva. My friend, you are obviously mis-informed. You are the kind of Madonna Fanatic who drives me crazy. Yes, Madonna has remained (relatively) mainstream for the last 20 years--although she has had to stoop below "sewer level" with her ridiculous antics in order to stay there. Cher is the one who paved the way for Madonna, and all the other Diva-wannabe's out there in music today. Cher was re-inventing herself TWO DECADES before anyone had even heard of Madonna. Yes, Cher has had her low years too, but she has always been able to bounce back without resorting to open-mouth kissing of the "teeny-bopper-du-jour" in order to jump-start interest in her career. Even with Cher's relatively subdued (compared to Madonna) lifestyle, Cher has NEVER had a problem getting publicity.I know it is hard to face for the many Madonna Fanatics who believe she is God. But, hate it as you may, the truth is: Cher is the one who led the way for Madonna to be the superstar she is today. I've said it before and I will say it again: I will be VERY interested to see, in another 20 years, if Madonna can keep her head above water and remain relevant for "40 frickin' years" like Cher has done.
Movie Review: Thank you, "Incomparable fan" from Philly Summary: 5 Stars
I could not have said it better. The comparison between Madonna and Cher continues because there are so many Madonna lovers who are jealous of Cher's overshadowing of their queen. I absolutely agree that Madonna may be big--but she can not (at this point in her career) ever reach the level of success that Cher has had. The only reason Madonna did so well in "Evita", is because "Evita" was basically a two-hour music video (not a major stretch for Madonna). Naturally, she did well--but could anyone see Madonna in any role that Cher has played in the past? Not hardly. And as for Madonna's children's books? Please. Let's not go down that road.Actually, I DO like Madonna. But, I am growing tired of her superficial and hypocritcal antics. Cher is just plain Cher--always is, always was, and always will be. On the other hand, Madonna changes her persona with every new album. Who knows "who" Madonna really is? It would be nice to know that there is a REAL person under all of that attitude and narcissism. However, even though I am a fan of Madonna, I am not so blind as to be unable to see through her. The same thing cannot be said for most of her fans. Until then, my advice to Madonna (and to Madonna fans), is to watch Cher, listen to Cher, and LEARN!
