Movie Reviews of Cheating Death, Stealing Life: The Eddie Guerrero Story

Movie Review: R.I.P Eddie Guerrero
Summary: 3 Stars

This dvd is not the best example of Eddie. The documentary on him is from a speical on UPN and not really well made. There are ten matches and most of them have been seen elsewhere. Now that Eddie's passed on, maybe WWE will re-release this set with better matchs and a better biography. Its sad how WWE has used Eddie's name on tv to get the heels some real heat. Eddie always promised to steal the show and he delivered. The best match ive ever witnessed him wrestle will not be on a dvd set. It was a house show I attended the year he died a few weeks away from SummerSlam. He wrestled Rey Mysterio in a falls count anywhere match and those two tore it up all over the building. Eddie got kicked in the face with a chair and bleed a gusher. No one knew how he pulled it off. Afterwards he got on the mic and said Dominic is still my son or something to that degree. It felt speical even though it was a house show. Again, a decent set for now but hopefully they'll make a better one.

Movie Review: Long Live "Latino Heat", You Will Be Missed.
Summary: 5 Stars

I just recently bought this DVD and I knew I was going to enjoy it before I even opened it. Eddie Guerrero was and is still one of the best wrestlers that I have ever seen in my 15 years of watching wrestling. It's hard to realize that such a great man and talent is no longer with us but I am sure Eddie would have wanted us to remember as the wrestler that we all enjoyed watching. The 45 minute documentary details Eddie's life in EL Paso, his marriage, death of this legendary father, Gory, his addictions, rock bottom and preserverance to become an icon and WWE Champion.

The extras are great as well as it features ten great matches, although nine of them feature Eddie, they are all great. Plus, some funny moments as well as stories from the Guerrero family.

I want to give a review on my favorite matches of this collection:

2 out of 3 Falls {ECW}: Eddie Guerrero vs Dean Malenko. This is a classic techinical battle that displays these two men at their best.

WCW Cruiserweight Championship: Eddie Guerrero vs Chris Jericho. These two guys were the main reason I watched WCW and this match showed you why I did.

WCW Cruiserweight Championship vs Rey's Mask: Eddie Guerrero vs Rey Mysterio. These two would go on to have classic battle after classic battle in the future and this was the start of it all.

Hair vs Hair: Eddie Guerrero vs Chavo Guerrero. This match was pretty good from the techinical aspect and even wierd but funny dialoque.

Ladder Match for the WWE Intercontinental Championship: Eddie Guerrero vs Rob Van Dam. WOW, I can not believe this is the forgotten ladder match. These two blew the roof off RAW that night in Canada. Both guys suffer accidents with the ladder though, and the fan pushing Eddie is cut off.

Triple Threat Elimination WWE Tag Team Championship: Eddie & Chavo Guerrero vs Edge & Rey Mysterio vs Kurt Angle & Chris Benoit. This one was a sprint from the get-go. Arguably the second best match of that Survivor Series event.

Finals of the Tournament for the WWE United States Championship: Eddie Guerrero vs Chris Benoit. These two open up the show at perhaps Smackdown's best PPV. Eddie lies, cheats and steals to perfection in this one.

WWE Championship: Eddie Guerrero vs Brock Lesnar. I have said a million times and I will never regret it. This is my favorite Guerrero match and it caps off what has been a great career for Eddie Guerrero. An exciting and unpredictable match that will leave perhaps emotional. Eddie gets his well-deserved WWE Title.

This is a must have for all wrestling fans. RIP, EDDIE GUERRERO, ONE OF THE ALL TIME BEST.

Movie Review: Tale Of A Legend
Summary: 5 Stars

This release came out over a year before Eddie's untimely passing. While a bit short for my tastes (just under an hour, it should've been as long as Chris Benoit's was), it was still very good.

"Cheating Death, Stealing Life" is a tale of Eddie Guerrero's beginnings in Mexico as a kid in a wrestling family, from meeting and marrying Vickie, to his wrestling career from Mexico's AAA, New Japan, ECW, WCW and WWE. It goes into his highs professionally to his lows personally. His fall from grace due to his addiction to drugs and alcohol, losing his job with WWE in 2001 and nearly losing his marriage and family.

It is also a story about coming full circle and redemption as he got his life back together, ending with him winning the WWE Title from Brock Lesner in 2004 and being one of the main events at WrestleMania XX!

I am not a real sentimental guy but I found myself shaking my head and nearly crying on some parts. Seeing the way Vickie loved him and the way Eddie knows he hurt her and many people with his problems made me sad but also happy that he did turn his life around. The parts showing himself and Chris Benoit also made me sad as well. Two very talented performers who ended life so very differently. Even though it seems now that Chris' actions may not have been entirely his fault, its still sad. Benoit DID say one true thing on here though, he said that "this is a story that needs to be told." I couldn't agree more.

On a personal note, let me say this. IF Chris somehow is in heaven, I only hope Eddie is there to comfort him and his family that he killed because I feel that Eddie IS in heaven!

Back to the DVD, there is only a small amount of matches BUT they do show how brilliant Eddie was in the ring. The other extras are very fun and good too.

Eddie Guerrero, may you rest in peace!

Movie Review: The legend!
Summary: 5 Stars

Let me first say that Eddie Guerrero wore his heart on his sleeve and was not only a brillant in ring performer but a great family. Thats more than I can say for his buddy Benoit. Eddie had a story book career which was well established before the time in the WWE. Eddie will always be missed and gained my highest respect. I would definitely buy this video! Its a phenomenal story about a brillant wrestler. Much gratitude to have been entertained by Eddie over the years.

Movie Review: The main program is good, the matches are classics
Summary: 5 Stars

I enjoyed the main program, which is an hour long and covers a bit about the life and turmoils of Eddie Guerrero. After reading his book first, the DVD doesn't really compare in terms of telling the story of his problems with drugs and alcohol, and his struggles to overcome them. However, you get a better feel about the kind of person Eddie was through the interviews.

The matches included on the DVD are AWESOME. I'd love another Eddie DVD, since there are a lot of classics not on here, but what they included for the most part is great. My only complaint is that they put a 6-man tag match on there from an AWA PPV with Eddie's brothers taking on Cactus Jack and two others. Eddie wasn't in this match, and the match wasn't very good. I don't know why it was included.
