Movie Reviews of Chasing Rain: Craig HuxleyMovie Review: Pleasant, but dated Summary: 3 Stars
Craig Huxley was no doubt a very talented musician, a child prodigy and TV star in the 1960's. Having been a musician for many years he released a few albums in the late 1980's into the 90's. Chasing Rain, plus this DVD, is one of them.
The music is actually very soft, adult-contemporary sounding. Acoustic and electric pianos, harps, flutes, soft synthesizers, unobtrusive percussion. During that era this was a popular style of instrumental music many musicians were seeking to capitalize on. Music that wasn't jazz, it wasn't rock, it wasn't new age, it was all three. The DVD made an attempt to do the same. And you could find these kinds of albums and DVDs in stores that used to sell things like rocks, or candles. The problem is, the music sounds like it's rather stuck in that era, and a lot of listeners are likely to find it dull today.
As to the video, it is even more dated. Just soft shots of water dripping in puddles, streams, wind blowing leaves, all with very long dissolves and dated looking video effects. An unnamed young woman's face appears briefly, looking somber, yet relaxed.
Huxley himself does not appear on the video in any way. Nor do any other musicians playing any kind of music. And that's too bad. This DVD, and album isn't bad, per se, just very dated, and would only be of interest to Huxley fans.
