Movie Review: outstanding movie

i saw this movie yesterday and i am always very thankful for its production
a brilliant masterwork by don siegel with excellent walter matthau and real brutal, racist killer molly (joe don baker!) who chases him
the script of this movie is very intelligent with mostly unpredictable action and superb showdown
music is very fine and has a thrilling rhythm
very nice locations in new mexico with notions of a road movie
photographed with long silent scenes and beautiful rural colors
quiet, sparse dialogues that allow insights to the individuals and leaves enough space to the viewer for phantasy and intrinsic suspense
one of top 10 of all 70's movies ever - absolutely underrated
Movie Review: Love This Classic!!

I saw this as a teenager living in Europe shortly after it came out. It's one of those clever story lines that you don't forget. Of course Walter is fantastic in the lead role. No high budget film but an excellent example of how a great story can be told with great actors and it doesn't need much garnish--much as in cooking with really great ingredients! You let them speak for themselves. I Highly recommend this little forgotten GEM!!! Watch it, you'll be glad you did. I hate to say it (but it's so true I must) they don't make films like this anymore...and it's a shame!
Movie Review: The laserdisc is widescreen!!!!!!

If only all you people had supported laserdiscs back in the day, you would'nt be complaining now! Charley Varrick has been available since the late 90s on laserdisc-widescreen 1:85. Its a double feature set with Madigan, also letterbox! They both look fantastic!!! Who needs the DVD? Not me! Also as for the Panavision issue. When movies advertised Panavision back in those days, it meant 2:35 wide, nothing else. This was a mistake on Charley Varricks ads and posters. This ended sometime in the 80s. Of course! Charley Varrick is one of those hidden gems among movies that make remember and appreciate the movies of yesteryear and the brilliant actors that played the roles. Walter Matthau was great in this title role. The movie also seems to maintain an insiders joke as many of the cast members were also present in the previous years (1971) blockbuster Dirty Harry. The DVD I received was great, and I have enjoyed it many times since receiving it.Movie Review: one of the greats

I saw this movie about three times in five days when it first appeared in the 70's and have been looking for it ever since.
Having waited the best part of forty years to see it again I was wondering how it would hold up - I was not disappointed.
Any fan of 70's movies should see this - Don Siegel, Walter Mathau, Joe Don Baker and the baddy from Dirty Harry. It doesn't get any better !
