Movie Reviews of Chances AreMovie Review: Good transfer to DVD Summary: 5 Stars
As romanatic comedies go--this is one of the best. I don't normally care for this genre, but I'll make an exception for "Chances Are". The film is well paced and the casting is perfect--in particular for Robert Downey Jr.--you can't imagine anyone else playing his role.
I almost did not purchase the DVD, thinking the transfer to DVD would be a grainy, letter-boxed, disappointing mess--not true! The transfer to DVD of this 1989 movie is quite good--anamorphic widescreen (and enhanced for 16x9 large screen TVs--so that the picture fills the entire screen--no annoying little letterbox!) with vivid colors and good sound. Although the plot involves rather serious events (death and reincarnation), the movie is quite funny--and clean--good for the entire family. This is one you will watch again and again. Highly recommended!
Movie Review: "He forgot his shot." Summary: 5 Stars
A man gets killed in a fatal car accident and is whisked away to heaven where, apparantly there is a hefty waiting line. Obsssed with getting back to his wife, he jumps on the fast track to be reincarnated. But, the heavenly helper forgets to give the obsessed man his shot.
So, after growing up, and meeting back up with the wife he once had and her daughter, everything comes flooding back.
Freqeunt memory lapses occur in Robert Downey jr.s' head constently.
Now, to try to make things right, he confides that he was her man to be. But, after countless fights, misunderstandings, and mixed feelings, everyone has to deal with this new change . . .even Robert.
Is this movie any good? Chances are that it is.
Enjoy!
Movie Review: Absolutely Adorable! Summary: 5 Stars
This is my favorite Robert Downey film. It's a completely sappy 80's movie, but that just gives it more charm.Robert Downey plays a recent college grad (Louie) who is the reincarnated soul of Cybil Shephard's husband. When he meets her daughter, they hit it off. Louie begins remembering things from his former life, frightening the (still mourning over her husband) living daylights out of Corinne. Louie must prove to Corrine that he's not making everything up, or he'll lose her forever. Excellent acting by the entire cast--Downey really shines. Any of you who stay in Monday nights because you don't want to miss Downey playing Larry Paul on Ally will love this movie!
Movie Review: likeable movie Summary: 5 Stars
This is one of the rare romantic comedies that comes off making you feel good. In spite of all the potentially creepy or awkward scenes it actually ends up being cute and heartwarming. It's also one of those movies where little details are tied to later plot developments making the whole thing seem more tidy and well-developed. Of course you have to be open to a small suspension of disbelief to accept the reincarnation device and the idea that so many things hadn't changed in the 23 years between the death of Louie and the arrival of Alex, but these things are really minor. This one is definitely worth having in the collection.
Movie Review: Chances Are Summary: 5 Stars
I ordered and received the DVD Chances Are - it came promptly and in good condition! The DVD was exactly as advertised. I would happily do business with this group again! Thank you! The movie itself is one of my favorites but seems to have been missed by the majority of the population! It is a great film about reincarnation but in a most under-stated manner! Robert Downey was at his best during this film - and Cybil Sheperd - well what can one say about this icon of the film industry!
