Movie Reviews of Celtic WomanMovie Review: Stand In Awe!!! Summary: 5 Stars
Listening to the CD as I write.
My wife and I were watching the local PBS Channel on which the Celtic Woman performance was aired. Catching it in the middle of the performance, I immediately turned to our local programming guide to find when it would be aired again. We have watched the performance twice since!
God has blessed these five young women with talents that reach in and take hold of your inner soul!!! Not to slight the talents blessed upon David Downes in orchestration of such a production!!! My praise goes out to all those involved in this creation!!!
As a member of an Accapela singing group, I stand in awe of the purity of the voice and interpetation of each work!
Movie Review: Lovely Summary: 5 Stars
My aunt sent me a copy of this DVD as a congrats for getting out of school. I was a bit wary of it, at first, I thought "it's going to be something corny, isn't it." But it wasn't. Since my father's side of the family is richly saturated in everything Ireland (he's 100% Irish) I was awfully moved by all of the traditional songs they did, specifically the ones in Gaelic. The fiddle pieces were fantastic, since I play violin/fiddle I got extreamly excited to see a fiddler showcased.
This DVD is worth the buy, whether it's for you or for a family member who enjoys all things Celtic, the show is energizing and it's really nice to actually see the people singing, instead of just hearing it.
Movie Review: Not usually into Irish music Summary: 5 Stars
I'm a classical musician and usually detest these sorts of things but a good friend bought this and showed it to me. WOW.
I almost hate to admit it but I am truely blown away by this. The orchestra, choir and soloists really give a tour de force.
Particularly love "Send me a Song" with I think Lisa? singing. Also Marble Halls is wonderful. I could keep going here, great version of Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring, and even the ubiquitous "You Raise Me Up" is given a good airing.
With Christmas coming I would love a few of the classics given a fresh new treatment by this group, and in particular the arrangers.
Great job.
Movie Review: Celtic Woman Summary: 5 Stars
Amazing! Wonderful! There are not enough superlatives to describe this fabulous concert - hauntingly beautiful music, and a gorgeous, spectacular presentation. The women are beautiful, and they sing beautifully. Most of the tunes are traditional Celtic tunes, with a couple in Gaelic, but there are also some more recent songs - Someday, from Disney's The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and Somewhere (a four part female voice arrangement) from West Side Story are just a couple The show stopper song for me is You Raise Me Up, but Nella Fantasia might be my favorite song of the concert. I enthusiastically and wholeheartedly recommend this wonderful concert.
Movie Review: No lip-synching, just visual editing. Summary: 5 Stars
It is important to understand that the audio heard on this DVD was recorded live. In order for the producers to deliver a video track which meets the same high standards of the audio track, they must use video taken from several performances. The video is then edited together with the best available live audio recording of the song. Please don't accuse the performers of lip-synching. This just isn't the case. Due to editing, every quiver of their throats may not match the audio track perfectly, but there was absolutely no lip-synching in this production. Instead what you see are the results of a producer trying to deliver the best DVD possible.
