Movie Reviews of Celtic WomanMovie Review: An Ethereal Experience! Summary: 5 Stars
For some reason I kept missing the entire performance on PBS; seeing bits here and there. So I did the next best thing: I was fortunate to see Celtic Woman live on stage in Richmond, Va. All of the performers from the DVD recording were present sans M?av N? Mhaolchatha who was off for maternity leave. In her place was Deirdre Shannon (Gilsenan) , who played "The Godess Erin" in Michael Flatley's 'Lord of the Dance'.
I can testify to all that this live DVD recording is equal to the mesmerizing live performance I saw in October 2005. As Enya herself had difficulty singing "May It Be" live, Lisa Kelly proved she was aptley able as were all the young ladies.
The bonus interviews of the principals including David Downes displays the individual qualities of each performer. A wonderful addition to anyones collection.
Movie Review: More yeas than nays - Yea! Summary: 5 Stars
I watched this on PBS three times. I ordered it from Amazon immediately. If it was patched, so what. The final take is captivating! Everyone in my family gets it for Christmas.
I did tell the family to be sure to watch with a good sound and video system. I have excellent sound and graphics systems with my pc.
And watching in full screen letterbox really increases the enjoyment. The quality of sound and color graphics with better equipment is astounding.
I do aggree that subtitles of the lyrics would be nice (or maybe publish the lyrics with the DVD). I agree that the flashing spots were distracting and more close ups of the musicians and chorus would improve the presentations.
However, those of you who were distracted by the lighting, synching, etc., just listen.... Don't watch. Just to listen is enchanting.
Movie Review: Celtic Women Summary: 5 Stars
I originally watched portions of this show on PBS, during a fund drive. I enjoyed it and wanted to enjoy the entire show, so I bought the DVD.
I thoroughly enjoyed this DVD and have watched it four times so far since receiving it. I had also just purchased a large LCD TV and since I do not have satelite or cabel and broadcast quality and content available thru the air is so bad, I have really enjoyed watching and listening to the dvd.
I believe I can afford and really enjoy purchased DVDs of programs vs watching what is available from the networks, cable, or satelite broadcasters, at a lower cost.
I highly recommend this disk to anyone who enjoys listening to quality performances of beautiful Irish women and may have also seen parts of the show on PBS.
Movie Review: Ordered for my teenaged son Summary: 5 Stars
My son (15) and I had originally watched this program on PBS. I had changed the channel from something completely mindless and thought my son would get disgusted and go to bed. However, he continued to watch and made several comments to me about how he "liked" Celtic Women. I thought he was being sarcastic, but soon realized he liked the songs, the presentation, and the nice looking Celtic Women. I surprised him for his birthday and got him the DVD. He wants the CD also. The music touched his musical side and he now wants to join choir. It is certainly a very good DVD, no inappropriate content, can be viewed by all family members. I would recommend this for anyone who is tired of seeing too much sex in music and really wants to get back to a beautiful concert and appreciation of good musicians. Jill
Movie Review: I didn't even know I like Celtic Music Summary: 5 Stars
I love is music. I first discovered it while flipping channel and I stopped just as chloe sang the song from the "Hunch Back of Notre Dame" I was spellbound. I watched the rest of the concert even the station's pleas for money because I didn't want to miss a minute. PBS offer this DVD as $75 premium and $150 for both the CD and DVD. Later There was a TV ad offering them a $25 each. On Amazon I got both for less than $25 plus shipping. The DVD has the entire concert that was shown on PBS plus Interviews that weren't plus Bios of each proformer in text.(The CD is missing two songs that were in the concert)I think what I like most about the DVD is the Audience shots their enjoyment just shines in their faces. It makes me want to go to Dublin to meet the kind of people who were watching that concert.
