Movie Reviews of Celtic Woman: A Christmas Celebration

Movie Review: Celtic perfection of beauty, class, style and grace.
Summary: 5 Stars

Perfection in a DVD. A great addition to the other two DVD's of this wonderful Group of talented woman and other performers. I have been blessed to see them twice in Philadelphia, Pa. USA and lucky enough to consider them friends. Having met David, Orla, Chloe' and Maread and seeing and waving to Lisa and Meav I have been in awe of them and their music. Many a day turned around for me in amongst a lot of saddness and loss over the last two years. For the most uplifting gift to one's self or someone you love, run and get this, you will not be sorry you did. This Christmas concert was a treat all on its own level. Really surpassed my expectations. I would personally suggest all the DVDs and CDs of this group and of their own singular albums, all fantastic. Sorry to hear of Meav leaving but wish her well, a beautifully talented woman who will be back we hope for reunions. We welcome Lyn Hilary as her replacement and look forward to getting to know her. Thank you David and others for bringing us this wonderful music and class act of performers. God bless each of you involved in this group of CW. May you have many more tours, music and appearances. Thank you for making life a bit more sweeter and a hole lot more worth the living. Love, Dennis K. Yates and life partner Kenneth G. Hartman.

Movie Review: It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas ( C W Style)
Summary: 5 Stars

It is beginning to look a lot like Christmas, so haul out the holly, and trim the tree, and get ready for the most beautiful Christmas Collection this side of the Golden Gates. I play this CD when it is not even Christmas and just love every minute of it-esp "Little Drummer Boy" perhaps I'm hooked on repetition as I have always enjoyed this song, but with the Gregorian chant added and Chloe singing the part of the little lad who wants to play the drum for Baby Jesu and Ray Fean solemnly drumming away- this is an incredble production led by Orla's flawless intro. Space does not permit me here to extoll each one of these songs as I would like to. I think the time-worn carols we often hear blaring out of commercial stores and elevators take on a whole new robust and invigorating manner that slaps you upside the head and opens your eyes to the intrinsic beauty of "Noel" and "O Come all Ye Faithful" no triteness here-just magnificence-glorious visual and aural praises to the "Reason for the Season" ! I get such peace within knowing David Downes has been allowed to commercially share his gifts of arrangments, direction and compositions with us. How wonderful it is to own this DVD-if you are looking for some Christmas Cheer-you found it here!

Movie Review: I'd gladly buy tics for a Celtic Woman Christmas Concert.
Summary: 5 Stars

I had listened to the CD from this project before seeing the video. I am impressed. Let me give you several things I'm impressed with.

1. I'm impressed the song order on the DVD is different from the CD list. You have the same songs, but it creates interest for the song list to be changed. For instance, the CD starts with "O Holy Night", while the video begins with "Carol Of The Bells".

2. I'm impressed with the choreography. It is simple, which adds to the beauty of it. In other words, it does not distract from the song. I especially loved the choreography (as well as the arrangement) of "The Little Drummer Boy".

3. I'm impressed with the outfits. The ladies look beautiful, but the dresses are fairly modest, which is something I don't take for granted.

4. I'm impressed with Mairead's musicianship. She is a joy to watch, partially because she gives the impression she has joy in performing.

One last comment. I saw the video of "A New Journey" (not the original), and I like Lisa's hairstyle here better than the one in the new video.

Okay, one more last comment. I thought "Let It Snow" was fun.

Movie Review: PURE IMMACULATE BEAUTY IN VISION AND SOUND
Summary: 5 Stars

This is one of those RARE treats in life! The Celtic Women embody all that is beautiful in women. Thanks to our society's obsession with pop culture most women have been led so far astray from the True path of natural femininity and rarely resemble in mind and soul the pure and wonderful women on this DVD! This is the ultimate in soothing reassuring feminine vocal adoration. The Celtic Women have arrived a little late on the scene (we really needed them about 15 years ago, when pop culture took a swan dive into the abyss of absurdity) but hopefully their incredibly charming voices will inspire a new generation and awaken the True spirit hidden inside women. The ancient calling in these sumptuous melodies will hopefully allow them to shed their 'tough girl' disguises and realize their suppressed, subtle, yet powerful inner femininity. Politically Incorrect but astounding in its sonic beauty, The Celtic Women are the cure for the selfishness, absurdity and urbanization that has infected our pop culture and provide a welcome oasis to all who yearn for proof of pure goodness in the world.

Movie Review: Christmas music done right.
Summary: 5 Stars

The Celtic Women never let me down with their angelic voices and vibrant fiddler. Their Christmas album and DVD are no exception. Producer/Composer David Downes returned to his original formula. The ladies are back at Helix where the first DVD was filmed. The ladies don't change gowns and remain in the same dresses throughout the show.
This is Meav's farewell performance and her voice is top form. Meav's Silent Night is a show stopper early on. Her duet with Chloe on Don Oíche Úd I mBeithil is breathtaking. Meav steals the show on the Wexford Carol.
Orlah is the second show stopper. Her duet with Chloe on the Little Drummer boy is lovely. She was the perfect choice to do Away in a Manger. Her celtic voice suits it perfectly.
Mairead does a great job on Carol of Bells. Lisa and Chloe are wonderful as well. Your Christmas DVD collection is not complete without this work of art. We'll miss you Meav, but with this DVD we can always remember you at your best.
