Movie Reviews of CavemanMovie Review: What a charming little movie Summary: 4 Stars
CAVEMAN, directed by JAWS co-writer Carl Gottleib, may not bring waves of gut-busting, laugh out loud moments, but there is still a real joy in watching this colorful clever little film. The very nature of it is silly, and the real magic is in the performances by Ringo Starr as Atouk, Tunda the chief, Shelly Long as the giddy and beautiful blonde, and Dennis Quaid as Atouk's buddy. It's these performances, their energy and silliness (but not slapsticky) that sell this joyful movie, as there is little comprehensible dialogue to relate ideas or situations. The humor, as a pleasant surprise, leans more towards satire and not tastelessnes or slapstick. Kids will enjoy the colorfulness and lightness, but mature audiences should find it a fun and lighthearted romp. Recommended
Movie Review: "Caveman"'s dinosaurs Summary: 4 Stars
I just read all 56 (at this writing) reviews of this film, and I am quite surprised that no one mentioned the special effects, specifically the stop-motion animation dinosaurs. The models are well-constructed & fluidly animated, and the composites are convincing--there's one shot of a live-action Ringo Starr riding a stop-motion puppet dinosaur that is just astounding. I'll concede that the drug humor and Atouk's attempt to have his way with the sleeping Lana should disqualify younger viewers from seeing it (and they make the PG rating dubious), but just because a film shouldn't be watched by kids doesn't automatically make it bad.
Movie Review: I was wondering if Caveman would make it to DVD Summary: 4 Stars
I remember watching this movie when I was 10. It was funny then, I hope I still find it so. I recall the best scene was the discovery of music. Of course, I would because I now teach music. Then again, I thought that it was funny to see (er, hear) Denis Quaid (I think) pee icecubes. Hey, it has been 22 years... I will by this DVD and totally not regret it.
Movie Review: 1,000,000 B.C. or there abouts Summary: 4 Stars
Ok, this is a truly brainless film, I admit it. It's just one those films that is so stupid it has a endearing appeal. Ringo Starr in one of the last movies I remember him being in, Barbara Bach -- THE SPY WHO LOVED ME really did wonders for her career, eh? Also a young Dennis Quaid and Shelly Long. Mustn't forget the doped up T-Rex!
Movie Review: Caveman Review Summary: 4 Stars
DVD has good quality and sound. Movie is funny and enjoyable, entertaining to view some actors when they were younger; Dennis Quaid, Shelly Long, Ringo Starr. Plot line is fairly predictable, a bit corny at times, but worth the price. A bit of sexual innuendos and actions make it more PG-13 by today's standards.
