Movie Reviews of Cassandra's DreamMovie Review: A Good Little Film... Summary: 5 Stars

As most will know, Allen Konigsberg (`Woody Allen') doesn't make big-budget blockbusters.
His films are `little' ensemble casts (usually with distinctive actors), virtually no more than filmed stage plays against attractive backdrops.
Which leaves his dialogue and topoi.
Allen's dialogue isn't as contrived nor stilted as that of David Mamet or Harold Pinter.
Which leaves Allen's preoccupation with recurrent themes of passion, death, and conscience. (Merriam-Webster's definition of `conscience' is so spot-on as to be quote-worthy: `the sense or consciousness of the moral goodness or blameworthiness of one's own conduct, intentions, or character together with a feeling of obligation to do right or be good'--damn! that's good.)
Some might say that Allen's 2007 film Cassandra's Dream is merely a repackaging of his 2005 Match Point--which was a repackaging of his 1989 Crimes and Misdemeanors; and the rebuttal would be, `well--yes and no'.
It is true that in recent years Allen has cinematically abandoned the backdrop of New York City and its environs for that of London and the English countryside.
And it is true that all three films deal with passion, death, and conscience.
But we must grant that especially in the two recent films Allen's cinematic expression of youthful passion is evermore believably compelling; and in Cassandra's Dream Allen's portrayal of conscience is extremely well-drawn.
Cassandra's Dream is moved along by a very good Anglo-Irish ensemble cast including Colin Farrell, John Benfield, Phil Davis, Sally Hawkins, and the brilliant Tom Wilkinson.
