Movie Reviews of Casino Royale [Blu-ray]Movie Review: Excellent Revamp That Was Desperately Needed Summary: 5 Stars
With the latest installment of the Bond saga, the entire series has been recreated in a new image that is more gritty, edgy and realistic. The facelift was beyond necessary as the series had become little more than a cheesy practice of stringing together enough bland action scenes and corny 1-liners to fill 2 hours of screen time.
Daniel Craig's performance totally redefines Bond making him one tough customer but far less cartoony than prior incarnations. He's more interested in getting the job done and less concerned w/ being debonair. Another interesting note, he has character flaws, some of them major. At times his decisions are questionable or clouded by his ego. However he's clearly more of a man than any prior Bond that came before.
There are enough other reviews to give you details about the story so I'll avoid that. I'll just end by saying the story is very good as is the action, the acting excellent all around and the combination of all of those things makes for the best Bond in many, many years. For those hi-def gurus out there, CR is about as perfect as it gets both for picture quality and audio. Altogether well done.
Movie Review: Bond gets the royal treatment Summary: 5 Stars
As a Xbox 360 HD DVD drive fanboy owner, Casino Royale was one of the few HD films I was envious for that was Blu Ray exclusive. After hearing that Sony pretty much bought off the majority of the movie studios and thus the HD format war was over, I gave in and bought the best BD player worth the money, a PS3. Casino Royale was my first BD film I played on my PS3 and boy was I happy with my purchase. I had seen Casino Royale on standard DVD and loved the movie, the only Bond film I really, really loved. It reminded me of what they did with Batman Begins, in other words start fresh with a more realistic and gritty feel. But don't get me wrong, all the good things that make a Bond film great are still there, beautiful, exotic locations with equally beautiful and exotic women. The image quality in BD looked stunning, especially during the tropical beach and jungle enviroments. I thought I would hate Daniel Craig as 007 but quite the contrary, he's the best Bond ever. I read somewhere that Craig might be this generation's Steve McQueen, I can totally see that. I am looking forward to the next Bond film.
Movie Review: Casino Royale in Blu-Ray...I Love It! Summary: 5 Stars
This was the first ever movie I have watched in Blu-Ray and it did not disappoint. You won't find some technical review from me here, but I will tell you about my experience.
I invited a friend over, who was a little skeptical about the whole Blu-Ray thing. He just felt that it could not really be any better than an upconverted DVD on an HDTV. So, we popped in Casino Royale, which I had read was a pretty good Blu-Ray release. Just to give something to compare to, we watched a few minutes of something on Discovery Channel HD. I think it was Dirty Jobs. Anyway, then I started Casino Royale. I was impressed with the picture and sound, but what would my skeptical friend think? After about 5 minutes, my friend weighed in on his experience, "Ok, this is better than I thought. I looks so clear! Fine, Blu-Ray is better." And there you have it. I was open to the new format and was impressed. My friend was a skeptic and he was impressed. Casino Royale is an exceptional port to Blu-Ray, so if you have a Blu-Ray player and you are a Bond fan, this is a must have!
Movie Review: The Best James Bond Film Since OHMSS Summary: 5 Stars
CASINO ROYALE is the best James Bond film since ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE. There are two reasons for this that immediately come to mind. First, you have two very rugged and masculine actors playing James Bond in each. Secondly, they went back to Ian Fleming's novels and did proper screen adaptations of the respective titles of his books. Also, both films throw away continuity (in OHMSS we ignore the fact that Bond had already met Blofeld in YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE) and they are stand-alone films and good ones at that. For the modern 21st Century era of Bond films CASINO ROYALE is the best and the recent 007 films do not even come close. I would have to say the screen adaptation of CASINO ROYALE from an Ian Fleming novel is the best in the entire series. It is a painstakingly and a faithfully updated adaptation and thoroughly innovative in its approach to Fleming's Book. I think this is the one film the Fleming-Bond fans have been waiting for. CASINO ROYALE is truly a homage to Fleming in that respect.
Movie Review: Best Bond Ever; or Start from the begining.. Summary: 5 Stars
Craig is the best ever, PERIOD. I liked all the Bonds, even Timothy Dalton and George Lazenby! This film approches believablity; a bit of a departure from the past... Bond almost seems like a real operator. There are real men like this in the special operations world. They come from the U.S. Armed Forces, U.K. Special Bost Service, and Frĝmandskorpset. You will never meet them and they don't write books or tell their story in film after their service to their country...
1) I saw my first Bond movie from the back of a brand new 64" F85 Olds with my parents and grandfather at the drive-in. I was 6 since then I have seen many Bond films I fell asleep in the back before the ending. This has not happned since then... This is my favorite Bond film, even after "Live and Let Die".
2) This film is timely and Bond is relivnant.
3) They have opened the door to successful rerelease of the Bond storyline for the next 10 to 20 years. Remarkable...
