Movie Reviews of Casino Royale [Blu-ray]Movie Review: Bond Better than Ever ! Summary: 5 Stars
In my opinion, this was one of the best bond movies I have ever seen. The opening chase sequence is just amazing. I thought the plot was pretty good in this film. I enjoyed how they showed the love interest causing Bond to turn completely into a purely heartless idividual. This is the Bond I want to see. No emotion or pity for anyone or anything. Of course, he will still have his charming ways with the ladies, but other than that, he is just ready to follow orders and kill people....awesome! The movie was made during the huge poker wave that swept the nation, so the idea of the tournament in the movie captured a much larger audience. My dad watched the movie purely because of the poker aspect, and ended up loving the movie as a whole.
I have to address the people giving this movie 1 star. Wasn't the idea of this movie to show Bond's introduction into his 00 status as an agent? The plot was great in this movie at showing his transformation into the Bond we all know from the past. The love interest side of this movie at times was a little awkward, but it was designed to show that he becomes a ruthless secret agent after her little swim. I would much rather see this Bond than others that throw out cheesy one liners and have rocket launching leg casts, laser watches, fire proof tuxedos, and any of the other thousand rediculous gadgets that Bond had in any of the other movies. If you look at any movie with nothing but critical eyes, you will always spot things that you don't like or that dont make sense. But .....it's a movie.....the point is that it doesnt have to make sense. If the idea that a load of cash can't be fit into a briefcase bothers you about this movie, do any of the gadgets make logical sense? They are thrown in there to get a laugh in most cases, and this movie isn't about that at all. It's too good to have to get enjoyment from cheap laughs.
Just watch the movie. It is a really good film. The next one should be even better, and I can't wait !
Movie Review: Bond is Back! Summary: 5 Stars
Move over Pierce Brosnan and Timothy Dalton. Daniel Craig is the best Bond in 20 years and has resurrected the franchise that was on life support.
The first thing you notice about Casino Royale is that it is absent of all of the cheesy gimmickery of the old Bond movies. The stunts and effects are believable. The acting is understated and real. The plot is fresh and new.
Daniel Craig's performance gives a hint of Sean Connery. But it's not an imitation of Connery. Craig makes the role his own. This is a whole new Bond. The cliche is that this movie is Bond for the 21st century (the terrorist angle), when it actually just brings Bond back to his roots. He is cunning more than he is charming. (unlike Roger Moore) He is different, he is new, he reinvents what you think a secret agent in her Majesty's secret service should be.
If you are looking for the trademark Bond staples such as the Martini (shaken, not stirred) - the easy women, the endless supply of Aston Martins etc... this movie may disappoint. Craig is rough around the edges but just smooth enough to make you believe that he deserves to be the newest "double-oh".
I suggest buying this DVD in 1080p Blu-Ray because of the spectacular cinematography, shot on location in Prague. It won't disappoint.
The best part about the movie, without giving too much away, is that the ending leaves you wanting more. Isn't that the goal of any great series?
I give it 5 stars.
Movie Review: Casino Royale brings much needed life in to a franchise that had lost its edge Summary: 5 Stars
I just finished watching the new James Bond Movie Casino Royale and I can say it was one of the best James Bond movies to come out in years. After watching the horrible Die Another Day I was a little afraid to watch Casino Royale. I took a risk and I'm glad I did because I really enjoyed this movie. This latest movie brings much needed life in to the James Bond Franchise which over the past few years had lost its edge. This is a new and improved Bond played by Daniel Craig. Daniel gives a great performance as 007, and his character actually has emotions and is not portrayed as this one dimensional robot like the previous films. The action scenes in this movie are great, and to see James Bond fall in love just adds to the drama of this movie. I don't want to give the movie away so I will say no more. This movie has some slow moments in it, but for the most part it is a good, entertaining, action packed movie. The Blu-ray disc picture looks amazing in true 1080p HD, and the sound is top notch as well if you choose the linear PCM 5.1 soundtrack. This is another one of the best looking Blu-ray discs (along with Crank, The Departed, and Babel) to come out. Check out Casino Royale and discover how cool James Bond is once again!

Movie Review: CASINO ROYALE Surpasses Expectations and Is One of the Best Summary: 5 Stars
If there was any doubt that Daniel Craig could portray or even be James Bond on screen, and there was plenty of skepticism, view CASINO ROYALE. Daniel Craig surpasses the competition with unique aplomb, wry humor, his physique and absolute sincerity. He is the perfect masculine specimen and the thinking man's Bond at the same time. Daniel Craig does have that certain screen magnetism that Sean Connery had in the role but you have to see him in motion to appreciate him. Yet, Craig has incredible attributes that none of his predecessors possessed. David Arnold composed one of the best and simultaneously a very controversial score referring to the James Bond Theme in the most ethereal sense until the final scene of the film. His score is inspired by the essence of James Bond, his motivations, his skills, his strengths and weaknesses as a living breathing man. Arnold's score is a reflection of the world that James Bond and his adversaries move and survive in. This score is one of the highlights and strengths behind the success of CASINO ROYALE. There are many other elements too numerous to mention when combined with actually basing the film on Ian Fleming's novel make CASINO ROYALE one of the best James Bond films ever made.
Movie Review: Bond is BACK! Summary: 5 Stars
The video quality of the Casino Royale movie transfer is literally jaw dropping! Picture all the times you've watched Discovery HD in 1080i (if you have seen this channel in HD, it's one of the top high definition channels) and then picture the entire movie with the same amount of clarity. The movie jets Bond all over the world and the slow plot development allows the audience to soak in the beauty of countrysides and cities (both in the day and at night). The writing in this movie is witty at times which is a fresh departure from the previous Bond movies. Yes, there are still a lot of beautiful women, fast cars, and product placement. For the first time in a long time, the plot has meaningful character development. The sound in the movie was also excellent though there were times I thought the bass overpowered the audio track (this could have been my surround sound settings).
Unfortunately, there are black bars due to the movie being presented in its original aspect ratio. But the video and sound quality more than make up for this minor issue. I only have a 1080i 46" Sony so I can only imagine what this movie looks like in 1080p. Portions of the review above were taken from my personal blog.
