Movie Reviews of Cars (Single-Disc Widescreen Edition)Movie Review: I Love This Movie!! Summary: 5 Stars
This movie is one of Pixar's best! It is set in the world of cars with actually no humans and none the human shape thing. O.K. this movie teaches kids and adults the lesson to adore the world around you and that there's more to life than just winning.
Cars is a bout a cocky race car named Lighting McQueen (Owen Wilson) who is a rookie in racing. In the beginning, he is racing for first place in the Dinoco 4000 race against The King (racing legend Richard petty) and Chick Hicks (Michael Newman). The race ends in a three-way-tie and the deciding race is held in California in a week. Mack, McQueen's trusty trailer, carries him to California but falls asleep. McQueen rolls out the back and ends up in Radiator Springs, a small town off Route 66. There, McQueen messes up their town and is sentence to fix it. He meets lots of cars. Mater (Larry the Cable Guy) his best friend and funniest in the film, Sally (Bonnie Hunt), a sexy Porsche who likes McQueen, Doc Hudson (Doc) (Paul Newman) Radiator Springs's judge and doctor and lots of other cars like Filmore, a 60's bus, Ramone, a low rider who runs Ramone's House of Body Art, Flo, Ramone's wife who runs Flo's V8 Cafe', Guido and Luigi, who run the tires shop Sarge, a WW2 vehicle, Red, the shy fire truck, Sheriff, the sheriff (duh!), and Lizzie, an old fashioned car who runs a souvenir shop. McQueen has fun adventures in Radiator Spring like tractor Tipping (funny!). In the end, McQueen leaves RS and heads for California. You'll have to see the movie to learn the rest.
All in All, I would definently buy this if I were you. it is heartwarming, funny, and cute.
Movie Review: "Doc Hollywood" for Cars Summary: 5 Stars
It's funny. I am late coming to this movie because I was afraid it would be too intense for my child, who just turned 3. I have yet to let him watch Nemo. Also, I am doing everything I can to discourage NASCAR viewer ship in my household. (Being a Southerner, you choose between two classes - Thoroughbreds or stock cars.)
At last, I gave in. My son loves the cars and although he had not asked for the movie, my partner and I needed a break from Thomas, so I bought the widescreen version of this movie.
The first thing I realized was that this is the same story as Doc Hollywood. Now, I happen to be a sap and I loved Doc Hollywood, but I was afraid it might be a too-familiar theme to keep my interest. Suffice it to say, I did not pause the movie one time from start to end.
Some say it does not have enough drama, but I am so glad no one has to die in this one, especially the Mom - and in a very loud and violent way - such as with Nemo. (I am still wondering whether Walt Disney ever got therapy for his Mother issues. Between the Mothers dying and the rest of the older women being witches - well...)
The characters are amazingly well-developed, remarkably loveable and incredibly designed. The casting was perfect and the tons of little jokes and spoofs will keep us watching this for a long time - if for nothing else than to watch for the jokes we missed.
We may have enjoyed it more than he did, but I know he will watch it many times in the months to come.
Oh - and for those who didn't have at least one little tear - cut back on your Prozac.
Movie Review: The Fast and the Furious Fun Summary: 5 Stars
Lightning McQueen is a rookie race car in a world populated by cars, trucks and other vehicles. Lightning is the hottest rookie around and he has a shot at the top title. But a rematch sends him to California. Unfortunately he gets lost on the way and winds up in Radiator Springs, a small town along old Route 66. His visit gets him in trouble and he winds up being stuck in town while performing community service.
At first Lightning is a smug egotist. All he thinks about is himself. He does not care about others. But the people and the relaxed attitude of Radiator Springs starts to leave its mark on the race car. Soon he realizes that caring about others is important. His personality begins to change. Soon he is back on his way to California for his chance at the title.
This is a fun and creative movie. The story at the heart of the film is as every bit a classic as Dickens's A CHRISTMAS CAROL. A strong and clear message that shows you can be good and successful at the same time. The whole car motif is carried all the way even using tiny VW bugs as the world's insects. Good characters help fill out the story. Two additional stories are included. One is Mater and the Ghostlight (the Ghostlight is mentioned in the film) and the second is a delightful tale of two performers competing for the coin of a young child (this on is called One-Man Band). The film itself ends with an epilogue that was not in the theater that I thought was pretty good and in keeping with the tone and ending of the film. All in all just a really fun movie that the whole family can enjoy. Check it out.
Movie Review: What a soundtrack! Summary: 5 Stars
A lovely movie that leaves the kids with a beautiful life lesson and big time entertaining for the whole family. Main character is Lightning McQueen, a beautiful little spoiled racing car too vain of his own early success to see beyond his own unexperience. Too proud and sure of himself to rely on others' advice, and believing that he would never be in need of anyone else. When he accidentally falls off the truck that was taking him to California to participate in the Piston Racing Coup, he finds himself on his own in an unknown place. Lost and alone he gets to Radiator Springs, a long-ago forgotten community struggling to stay in business nevertheless no big roads or highways pass nearby. A bunch of colorful guys there, with engines and parts perhaps not so brand-new and shiny but with certainly far more experience will eventually make him value all those meaningful and important things that go far beyond the mere outside looks and efervescent success: friendship, companionship, experience, and love.
...And plus: what a soundtrack! Rascal Flatts' version of "Life is a highway" got me rocking all the way home after the movie theater... These guys are just purely and plainly great and make unbelievable music, even when remaking a new version of this famous 80's tune. I love them. Sheryl Crow's "Real Gone" opening theme rocks! The rest of the soundtrack is just as great combining classic tunes by Chuck Berry and James Taylor with performances by Brad Paisley, John Mayer and others. My advice: buy the movie DVD along with the soundtrack CD! You won't regret it.
Movie Review: Enjoy it for even more than what it is Summary: 5 Stars
When my family and I first watched this movie, I was watching it as a NASCAR movie. Only after it came out on DVD, I begin to truly appreciate what John Lasseter was trying to do with this movie.
It took me a while to understand what the true meaning of this movie is. As I get older, I understand the 'slow down and enjoy how you got there' meaning to this movie. This movie is more than it appears on the surface. Watching it numerous times on DVD has helped to fully understand it.
Another point that I have discovered with Mr. Lasseter's reason for making this movie is an appreciation for Route 66. I started doing a Google search on Route 66. There are a number of web sites dedicated to it. Since I already love nostaglia, I have really enjoyed watching the movie and then looking at websites that have the locations that the movie was patterned after. For example, look up the Wigwam Motel to see where the idea for the Cozy Cone Motel came from.
As for the movie, the characters are great. The voice overs were all great choices. Owen Wilson is Lightning. Paul Newman is Doc Hudson. They fit their parts perfectly. The soundtrack is to be enjoyed. The 'Get your Kicks on Route 66' is great. When I first saw this movie, I told people "It slows down in the middle.". Now, I realize - that was the point! Enjoy this movie for what it is and even more!
