Movie Review: Carolina A Feel Good Movie
Summary: 5 Stars
I already love the work of screenwriter Katherine Fugate and I am a big fan of Shirley MacLaine, so I was anticipating an enjoyable good time. I was not disappointed. This is an entertaining movie that flys by quickly, has perfect casting with Shirley MacLaine and Julia Stiles and a great supporting cast of Azura Skye, Mika Borem and Alessandro Nivola.
The chemistry was great between them. Director Marleen Gorris did a wonderful job.
This movie is sweet and tender and is packed with huge chuckles and very memorable lines. Writer Katherine Fugate knows how to pull you in with real characters, rich dialogue and keep you interested throughout the entire movie. It's a love story not only with Julia Stiles character Carolina and her suitors, but with her Grandma Mirabeau too. You'll love the Mirabeau family and it's quirks and hilarious moments and you'll love them because of the feelings they have for each other. Looking forward to Ms Fuagte's future projects.
I highly recommend this movie as one you will watch over, especially when you just want to feel warm inside.
Movie Review: a film with heart

I would recommend Carolina as an entertaining, yet thought provoking film that focuses on the true nature of love, in all of its incarnations. It is a wonderful comedy with a great feeling for the relationships among the characters. Punctuated with sharp yet thoughtful dialogue, I found myself wanting more of it when the credits rolled.
Carolina is primarily story of the character Carolina (Julia Stiles), the oldest of three motherless (and mostly fatherless) girls being raised by their eccentric grandmother(Shirley MacLaine). Despite the less than ideal circumstances of her childhood, Carolina has managed to pull herself up by her own bootstraps. But instead of leaving her less than perfect family behind her she chooses to embrace them and keep them an integral part of her life. This key plot point is a large part of what makes Carolina head and shoulders above what might otherwise be another mundane romantic comedy.
Movie Review: perfect indie movie

This film has it all - comedy, drama and a great sense of Southern style. Speaking as a Southern, most writers don't get the blend of craziness and humanness right. Shirley MacLaine should've been nominated. I don't know why this wasn't released in America - I saw it on vacation in Italy at a film festival. Shirley won an award there for Best Supporting Actress. She was superb. It's also a starring vehicle for a great ensemble with Jennifer Coolidge (Mrs Stiflers' Mother, Best In Show, Legally Blonde) and Randy Quaid and Mika Boorem from ALong Came a Spider. Many other recognizable faces. But all about comedy and love and drama and family. Really an undiscovered gem.Movie Review: A well written movie for the whole family

It seems like recently if you wanted a movie you could watch with your whole family you had to choose either a cartoon or some fantasy/fairy tale. If you are looking for something else, here it is.Carolina is a character driven story about a modern family and how every family has a quirky side, some more than others. It has its moments, both touching and funny. For those (perhaps rare) occassions when you're not in the mood for explosions and car chases, I highly recommend this movie.

I seen Carolina.I think it was very well written and the actors were great.I was raised by my grandparents,as a lot of other people were,and believe me, we can relate to this movie very much.It is one of the best movies I have ever seen.There aren't enough of these types of movies anymore.The format was awsome.
