Movie Reviews of Carlito's WayMovie Review: Al Pacino, Brian DePalma where can you go wrong? Summary: 4 Stars
Over the years Brian DePalma has directed some very good movies and some very bad movies. But overall when he collaborates with Al Pacino, usually is a great. This movie shows the stark realism of how hard it is to fly straight. The movie takes place in the late 70's and is about a ex-con name Carlito Brigante (Al Pacino) who tries to get out of a life of crime and into normal life. It also stars Sean Penn as the greedy lawyer David Kleinfield. The movie is a beautiful transfer, and includes a great theatrical trailer that makes you wander why no one went and saw it.
Movie Review: Excellent Summary: 4 Stars
This movie is like a toned down version of another Al Pachino and Brian De Palma movie Scarface. Pachino is brilliant as usual and there are strong performances by John Leguizamo and especially Sean Penn. After being in Jail for 5 years Carlito Brigante is out of jail and has one dream. To get enough money to move away from the streets and into paradise. But when his friend David gets in trouble with a gangster Carlito has to do one more job before getting out. This role was just written for Pachino and is very underated. A must for all gangster film fans!!

Movie Review: Pacino and DePalma Do It Again Summary: 4 Stars
Pacino is the man. It's that simple. The scene on the escalator is the best of the movie. Pacino dies in 90% of all his films.
Movie Review: GOOD DRAMA, GOOD STORY TELLING Summary: 3 Stars
Pacino plays an excon with an old fashion honor code, who wants to make a few honest bucks to finally retire. Along the way are double crossing lawyers, old pals, and mob henchmen. I liked the steadycam shots, following Pacino at the train station, and the suspense scene at the pool room. Pacino is great, but he could not deliver the "neoyorrican" ( slang for a puertorrican raised in New York City)accent right. The movie seems to long at times, but that's because DePalma wanted us to relate to the characters enough, in order to make us aware of why Pacino keeps a distance from most people in the film. Is a good film because we identify with the main character, although we(or most of us )have not dealt with such low life, dangerous people, and we start feeling that we are actually hanging out with Carlito (Pacino's character). It's a good drama/suspense that shouldn't be missed. To be noticed, is Vigo Mortensen delivering a few but well spoken spanish lines, with no accent whatsoever, and perfect puertorrican inflection. Muy bien muchacho!
