Movie Reviews of Carlito's WayMovie Review: Performance of a lifetime for Pacino Summary: 5 Stars
Yeah, I agree. Sean Penn definitely should have gotten his much deserved Oscar for the Kleinfeld role.....but this is Pacino's movie, no two ways about it. 'Somebody's pulling me close to the ground.... I can sense but I can't see. I ain't panicked, I been here before.....'. After being gut-shot in the movie's opening sequence, Carlito Brigante sinks to the ground and, with the world and familiar faces spinning around him, he ponders the happenings of the last couple of months....... The drama begins! This movie DEMANDS your uttermost attention from the start, and the story unfolds with one surprising twist after another......A fine crime drama, a beautiful love story and a once-in-a-lifetime experience as a whole. The fast-paced, adrenalised, unbearable tension-filled final twenty minutes will haunt you for the rest of your life, guaranteed.... You just don't get better than this!
Movie Review: Pacino's best performance Summary: 5 Stars
This movie centres around Carlito Brigante, an ex-con who wants out of the cycle of crime he's been in all of his life. Everyone around him laughs at his dream of being part of a car dealership in the Bahamas with his ex-con friend, but he's determined to earn enough money to buy into this business by saving the profits over time from the night club that he is running. However, he can't seem to get away from the criminals that he used to be involved in, and the new crop of junior criminals who view him as a legend. The worst of these criminals is his own lawyer, played by Sean Penn, who has no idea how things work in the street and yet keeps on pushing the envelope to get what he wants from the various hoodlums.Pacino and Penn both play their roles brilliantly and the cinematography is equally deserving of praise and notice. Go rent it! It's a classic.
Movie Review: One of Pacino's best roles Summary: 5 Stars
This is a great movie, and Pacino is rivetting as Carlito Brigante, a Puerto Rican drug dealer who spent 5 years in prison and trying to reform his old ways. From the start Brigante is surrounded by former associates and 'friends' who try to pull him back to his pre-prison lifestyle. With a keen, streetwise perception, Brigante manages to stay out of harms reach, and ultimately out of the reach of the law who would like nothing better than to put him back in prison.
So far he's been able to beat the rap with the help of his cokehead lawyer-friend David Kleinfeld (played brilliantly by Sean Penn), who looks appropriately sleazy.
Ultimately this movie is about misplaced loyalty and the consequences of living by a code of ethics that doesn't question it's own rules.
Movie Review: One of the most overlooked movies of the 90's Summary: 5 Stars
It's only natural to compare "Carlito's Way" with "Scarface". And while the latter gets the lion's share of attention, "Carlito's Way" is the superior film. From the technical aspects, to the story and character development to dramatic tension, it is better in every way. I never once cared what happens to Tony in "Scarface". Not to mention that much of the violence seemed unnecessary and silly. You actually care about Carlito and want him to get what he's looking for, despite his past. It's also a little ironic that one of Pacino's most under-rated performances comes during the same year he wins his one and only oscar for his most over-rated performance in the painfully annoying "Scent of a Woman".
Movie Review: What a movie!!! Summary: 5 Stars
This is Al Pacino's greatest film. Als greatest roles have always been on a street level, with the people. As a former puerto-rican drug lord trying to escape his past life of crime and violence, this film captures all the beauty, character and extraordinary acting ability of Al pacino. It is Al at his best. Scarface, the Godfather and Serpico were great films as well but anyone who is a true fan of Al Pacino knows that he deserved an Oscar for his performance in this film. I would strongly urge anyone who is an Al Pacino fan and otherwise to purchase this movie. You wont regret it.
