Movie Reviews of Carl Perkins & Friends: Blue Suede Shoes - A Rockabilly SessionMovie Review: Blue Suede Shoes Summary: 5 Stars
I enjoyed it. Carl Perkins was a great entertainer and George Harrison was more than just a Beatle, he was a very talented man.

Movie Review: A Rocking DVD Summary: 5 Stars
This is one of the best DVD's I've ever seen, with all of Carl Perkins friends. A must to add to your collection.
Movie Review: Clapton & Carl Summary: 4 Stars
I've had a VHS copy of this show, for quite a few years. Recorded in 1985, to celebrate Carl Perkins' 65th birthday; he has a whole slew of very talented artists & musicians - mostly English, playing on the gig. George Harrison, Dave Edmonds, Roseanne Cash, Ringo Starr, etc. And Eric Clapton. It's very nice, considering it's 25+ years old.
I bought it for one reason. Carl & Eric perform (duel) two songs: Carl's "Match Box", & Roy Orbison's "Mean Woman Blues". If you are any kind Eric Clapton fan; you absolutely do not want to miss this. I have been waiting a long time for them to release this on DVD. Eric's guitar solos (especially Mean Woman Blues) are astounding. He's only 40 years old at the time -and on top of his game - and his playing is phenomenal ! If you have any kind of muscle sound system - you should find it very difficult, NOT to "blow the roof off".
Plenty of other great performances, but I haven't watched the entire show in years. Eric & Carl's performance are that good.
Don't miss it.
Movie Review: Carl and Friends (Who Happen to be Beatles and Eric Clapton) Summary: 4 Stars
This wonderful bit of rock music history was originally taped in October 1985 for Cinemax. I still remember watching it then as I was just turning 20 and was facinated with The Beatles and with Rockabilly music via the Stray Cats. As far as I know this is one of the first of those "esteemed elder rocker jams with younger buds" music shows that became popular in the late Eighties and early Nineties.
I will never forget the first time I saw this, when George Harrison is introduced and tears into Everybody's Trying To Be My Baby it made a huge impression on me. It is obvious that George and Carl shared a special friendship throughout, but at the end, when Carl finishes Blue Seude Shoes only to have George start singing it again, it is just one of several really sweet moments that made this show very special to me.
