Summary: 5 Stars
There is definitely a crossover cast from the "Thank God It's Friday" movie, although they tend to be well hidden under contrived car wash helping hands gear, but the voices are unmistakable. For instance, the ZOO DISCO DJ, and the man who played Floyd. With that regard, this movie fits right in to that category. I would say this one is up a notch over TGIF though, although I liked that too, and the similarities between the two are astounding in storytelling comedic soap opera style. Although the stories and adventures in this one are much tighter and move briskly. I do admit I noticed some cutting of some footage, but that doesnt stop the movie from having its appeal, whether you approve of disco or not.
The soundtrack, I recall at the time, was a major hit and it does not sound dated here as in TGIF, because the soul jive is mainstream with title cut and many additions, plus some really good ballads like, "Im Going Down" & "I Wanna Get Next To You."
The cameo appearance by Richard Pryor only adds to the chemistry that already exists in the movie, giving it zesty appeal along with the famed Pointer Sisters striking a good song church style in "You Gotta Believe."
They really do need to compile this movie into its original long running format though, but the songs are there, and so is the comedy. "So why don't you let the Wilson Sisters set you free!"

CAR WASH - DVD MovieA touchstone junk comedy from 1976, this ensemble piece helped set a precedent for movies with lots of characters and a vague narrative excuse for putting them all in the same movie. In this case, a car wash is the junction as director Michael Schultz strings comic set pieces together featuring well-known comedians and some new faces. Joel Schumacher wrote the script (he's since gone on to direct A Time to Kill and Batman Forever), and while the jokes don't exactly fly, the performers are fun to watch and the scenario is like fickle weather: if you don't like a particular scene, wait a second and a new one will be right along. The DVD release has a full-screen presentation, optional French and Spanish subtitles, English captions, and Dolby sound. --Tom Keogh
