Movie Reviews of Captains and the Kings

Movie Review: Magnificent!
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm going to keep it simple. Captains and The Kings is by far the greatest thing I have ever seen on film, period.

Movie Review: long overdue
Summary: 5 Stars

waied FAR too long for this to be out....one of the 1st & one of the better mini series

Movie Review: A First rate Production
Summary: 4 Stars

Having read the book when it was published, then about a year ago, I appreciated this film very much. I missed the original miniseries shown on TV.

This is one of the best, and my favorite Taylor Caldwell book. If you don't know much about the plight of the Irish immigrants in the 19th century, here is a good place to start. Yes, they author embellishes the story, but the real history is even more gory.

This is an allegory of the Kennedy family, and the curse that follows them. It is just as interesting after all these years as it was when I read the book. It is not for the impatient. Not only is it entertaining, but eye-opening as well. Books/films such as this lead to reading actual history for the curious. Highly recommended.

Movie Review: A walk down old tv mini series lane.
Summary: 4 Stars

I remember this was one of the earliest tv miniseries, and enjoyed watching it when I was a kid. I loved Richard Jordan. I ordered this for sentimental reasons and I'm not sorry I did. It came in a beautiful container, 3 discs. However the series was not as good as I remembered - the acting was overly dramatic and the dialog was corny. I read the book and don't remember the dialog being that corny. Anyway, I'm still glad I bought it, but it wasn't as good as I remembered. Acting and story lines have really matured over the years.

Movie Review: Captains and the Kings
Summary: 4 Stars

This was a blockbuster mini-series "back in the day," it was great then and great now. What a wonderful cast of characters. I doubt it would survive on television in the day of reality shows, but it was enjoyable to see this epic again, especially to be able to pause it and watch at my own pace. Whatever became of Richard Jordan? Such a great actor.
