Movie Reviews of Captains CourageousMovie Review: Shockingly good old movie Summary: 5 Stars
My wife generally dislikes anything made before the 90's, but even she had to admit that this movie was a pretty good movie.
On the other hand, I was happily shocked at how good this movie was.
The acting was excellent, as both my wife and I teared up at the end. Movies today don't usually give enough time to grow fond of characters, focusing more on plot and action.
Speaking of plot, it was incredibly simple, but original. Plenty to move along the characters, which is the main focus of the movie.
I can't say much more that hasn't been said a number of times, I just needed to say that I wished there were more movies like this one.
Movie Review: My Favorite! Summary: 5 Stars
This is my favorite film of all time!
I am sad to say that most people have never even heard of it -
It was an Acadamy Award winner, so I don't understand why it's not gotten much attention over the years...
I find it superior to other classics which seem to have withstood the test of time better than Captains Courageous.
I don't know why this is the case, but I am it's biggest advocate - urging all my friends to see it...
It is a wonderful and moving story, that will bring me to tears time and time again the same way as "It's a Wonderful Life Does"...
If you have strong values and a warm heart - this movie is for you!
Do not miss it!
Movie Review: Still Gripping Summary: 5 Stars
I first watched this as a boy in the 1950's. The film was old then and moved me. It still does.
I think in this modern day when so many boys have too much stuff and not enough father - that they too act out.
One of the most mythic searches of all is for the father who really cares for us and in caring also asks us to be a man.
Freddie Bartholomew was a genius. His transformation from the spoiled brat to the young man is one of the wonders of film. The real footage of the schooner life can never be replicated.
The redemptive power of the story and the characters are mythic - I think I will watch it again tonight
Movie Review: Excellent entertainment for all! Summary: 5 Stars
+JMJ I am no review writer so those who select to do so should view this amazing film which is an excellent study of valiant choices made and the transformation of a spoilt rich child. Freddy Bartolomew captured my heart when I saw him act in "Little Lord Fauntleroy" and his acting again captivated my interest and inspired my amazement of his mastery of character transformation. Spencer Tracy is already known as a legendary actor who lends an air of believability to a tough, seafaring man whose life is based on strong faith. Excellent film!! Viewing pleasure for anyone desiring to be entertained by men and children who could really act! Miss Ronnie
Movie Review: kipling gets a classic treatment Summary: 5 Stars
i had never seen this movie, and i dont know why! freddie bartholomew (top-billed as a teen!) is an obnoxious rich kid who falls overboard and is rescued by portuguese fisherman spencer tracy. over the next few months a bond forms between the two that is both honest and touching. a terrific olio of pathos, comedy, melodrama, and good common sense make victor flemings adaptation of the rudyard kipling novel (which im embarrassed to admit i never read) one of the best movies ive seen. great supporting work by lionel barrymore, john carradine, mickey rooney, melvyn douglas, more. and freddie is quite the beauty here. a winner!
