Movie Reviews of Captain Ron

Movie Review: if you've lived it...
Summary: 5 Stars

my father brought this on a sailing trip my family took recently (our family of four PLUS mom's cousin and dad's best friend) and we watched it at least 3 times on the portable dvd player. the two non-family members had not seen it, and were a bit perturbed about us knowing (and reciting) every line. our personal fave line is, "frankly, I've had this problem with the tides before." but who can forget, "you want a beer, you get your own beer," or "WHO WAS THOUGHTLESS ENOUGH TO PUT FOOD ON THE KITCHEN TABLE!!" by the end of the week, we were all convinced that we were living captain ron. while we did not get lost (whew!) we did have some misadventures with my dad at the helm. this movie is so funny, but living it makes it near and dear to us!

Movie Review: The Citizen Kane of High Sea Comedies
Summary: 5 Stars

Brilliantly conceived film about a family that must enlist the aid of a ragged-edged sailor to bring them home on a recently inherited boat, only to find that they've embarked on a series of misadventures with a highly questionable captain at the helm. Kurt Russel and Martin Short strut their comedic stuff in a screw-ball tour-de-force. This movie is the stuff that great careers are made of, a cinematic triumph for Russel, Short, and director, Thom Eberhardt.

The great thing about Captain Ron is that it not only manages to be funny, but maintains high cinematic standards: The exotic settings, energy-charged music, and acting make this a movie that deserves to be counted among the funniest of the 90's.

Movie Review: Fun & Filled With Life Lessons
Summary: 5 Stars

Hi there mates!

Plain and simple, this is one funny movie with a good heart.

Good-natured, cheery - its a down to earth silly movie that you can watch over and over again!

Yes, silly, but in the best sense of the word - 'silly' comes from an Old English word meaning "happiness".

Oh, and there's some life lessons in this one - leaving the familiar and finding your self-worth - life is bigger and better when you get out there on the high 'seas' and discover what your made of.

Enjoy - all you Sea Dogs at heart!!

(just talking about this movie makes me want to change my nickname to 'SeaTurtle').

Movie Review: That's okay, Boss, it could happen to anyone!
Summary: 5 Stars

Even Captain Ron! Finally, on DVD!!! This is my family's favorite movie. We know all the lines and recite them along with the movie, and we still laugh so hard it hurts. Plus, the wisdom of Captain Ron helps bring humor into MANY real-life events. Something goes wrong at work? Just say, "That's okay, Boss, it could happen to anyone" and make everyone else wonder why you're smirking. Having trouble merging onto the freeway? Just say, "They'll get out of the way, they always do. Learned that driving the Saratoga." MUST HAVE DVD!!! CAN'T WAIT!!! Planning to buy several copies of the DVD. (rating the VHS version) (FYI, boaters, especially sailors, will probably find this movie more funny than land-lubbers.)

Movie Review: Just a fun adventure at sea
Summary: 5 Stars

Sometimes you just want to watch a fun, no-brainer-of-a-film, and that's what Captain Ron is...FUN! Won't win any awards for great writing or acting, but's it's a solidly enjoyable movie that's in the same vein as Six Days, Seven Nights (Harrison Ford) with a little Nate and Hayes (Tommmy Lee Jones) to boot.

Has some brief rear nudity and some scarce swearing (too bad, since it would've gone over better with families if those two VERY BRIEF elements had been cut) but it's all pretty harmless.

Not many people like this film, but I do. Definitely not my favorite seagoing film, but fun. Other ocean movies I recommend are: Nate and Hayes, Jaws, Dead Calm, Wind, Deep Rising, Cutthroat Island, The Deep...
