Movie Reviews of Cape Fear

Movie Review: Ultimate Thriller
Summary: 5 Stars

i am very inclined to agree with the other reviewers who rated this 4 stars or better. it is the ultimate thriller of the 60s. i have only one reservation about this one. the censor's code was too strict and forced great restrictions on the producers and director. to think of how much greater, as great as it already is, it could have been.

for those of you who haven't seen the remake of this awesome thriller, don't waste your time, in my opinion. this is definitely the superior version. the only version.

as for the DVD it has a theatrical trailer, cast bios, production photos, production notes, and best of all, a making of documentary.

i highly recommend it.

Movie Review: Good triumphs over evil
Summary: 5 Stars

Cape Fear is a gripping thriller that builds to a terrifying climax. The feeling of palpable fear is introduced from the outset and builds to a gripping ending. A man and his family live in fear of a loser bent on revenge. It seems nothing will stop this personification of evil. He is cold and calculating and determined. There seems to be no way out of tragedy at every turn. Innocence is like blood in the water. There is little hope until the end when the stalker slips up and allows his prey to defend himself and his family. A top-notch thriller.

Movie Review: The original Cape Fear
Summary: 5 Stars

Compared to Martin Scorsese's brutal re-make, J. Lee Thompson's original is a subtler, vastly more chilling exercise, with Mitchum's Cady a searing portrait of evil and barely contained violence. The story examines how the law can work against the innocent when the victimizer knows just how far he can go to harrass his victims with impunity. Peck is reliably stolid as Sam, Polly Bergen excels as jittery wife Peggy, and both Martin Balsam and Telly Savalas provide assured support playing a sheriff and private detective. Edge-of-your-seat entertainment.

Movie Review: Classic Mitchum
Summary: 5 Stars

This is one of the all time terror in your own backyard movies. Robert Mitchum plays the normal looking psycho who has locked the cross-hairs his vidictive and murderous hate on a family man and his wife and daughter. Mitchum is absolutely off the charts as the unstopable and ubiquitous evil, he is all in to ruin Gregory Peck's perfect little life, by devouring his wife and daughter. The music is idyllic in the man's yard till terror in the person of Bob Mitchum blots out any sense of normalcy. BUY THIS MOVIE!

Movie Review: Are you trying to pick me up?
Summary: 5 Stars

Just the way Mitchum says Yes,....yes,.. to the woman in the bar is sooo sexy. I love Robert Mitchum, but he isn't the only reason this movie is so great! I honestly think its better than the Cape Fear with DeNiro. All the actors are wonderful and it keeps your attention throughout even though you don't actually see the violence. Unlike the DeNiro version, the daughter is afraid of Mitchum, and kept the suspense high. If you've never seen this movie make sure you do. You'll want to run out and buy it!
