Movie Reviews of Can't Buy Me LoveMovie Review: A Lost 80's romantic comedy gem Summary: 5 Stars
Teen movies/romantic comedies sometimes were better in the 80's compared to now but heck that just might be nostalgia talking. A young Patrick Dempsey is in his senior year of high school. He is also smitten with Amanda Peterson, the prettiest and most popular girl around. She is dating a college boy and is a cheerleader so catching her is a ticket into the in crowd. The cost of the ticket to high school royalty is $1000. When the object of his desire ruins her mother's suede jacket by a wine stain she will do anything to replace it before mom gets back. Dempsey's character offers to pay for a replacement but she has to agree to be his girlfriend. The tactics works until it is all found out. But he still gets the girl in the end. Dempsey's charm was evident even when he was teen star.
Movie Review: This film is one of the most underated films of all time Summary: 5 Stars
I first saw this film when i was falling asleep with the telly on one late night - i could not turn it off, it was really good. Patrick Dempsy takes on his familiar geek role this time named Ronald Miller , a so called loser who is only known for mowing the lawns for locals. Anyway to cut a long story short he offers to pay the most popular girl in school played by the lovely Amanda Petterson, $1000 to pretend they are going out , this is a ploy to make him popular and it works. There are some good characters in this film, and there is a message at the end of the film that many people should take in.They do not make films like this anymore- and i hope that touchstone get round to releasing this fine film on dvd, i would be the first to snap it up!!!
Movie Review: From total Geek to total Chic Summary: 5 Stars
This statement can probably best describe Patrick Dempsey currently, but those who remember him in his earlier works only associate it with "Can't Buy Me Love". Dempsey stars in the story of a nerd who buys himself popularity only to fall in too deep with his new inflated ego. With countless memorable scenes and a touching (and yes corny) ending, this movie is clearly up there as far as teen 80's flicks. Dempsey shines as the desperate Ronald Miller looking for what he believes will provide happiness. His goofy ways are ever present in the big dance where he "introduces" the school to a new dance. Amanda Peterson and Courtney Gains round out a solid cast.
Movie Review: Still funny Summary: 5 Stars
I recently bought this movie with trepidation, I sometimes come across some old movie that I'd watched as a teen in the 80's and thought what the...? But this was a pleasant surprise it's still funny, and it's a blast to watch all the "cool" looks we had back then.
I read a review here stating to the effect that the movie had no moral compass (I'm paraphrasing), did we see the same movie? It's basically a tale of how to not go about trying to be "popular". How we can lose sight of what is really important.
And in the end if you are true to yourself you will eventually end up happy.
Movie Review: Love '80s movies! Summary: 5 Stars
I love this movie no matter what anyone says. This movie unlike many other teen flicks of that time actually had a moral to it. Don't change yourself just to become popular. The movie was both entertaining and delightful. Seth green was in it and he was so young! My favorite singer also choreagraphed in this movie Paula Abdul. I liked the Ronald Miller part because I just graduated from high school and I know how it feels to be left out. this is a good movie with a good moral to it. My suggestion is to see the movie once and then decide if you like it or not like it.
