Movie Review: Not For The Squeamish
Summary: 5 Stars
The making of this film by Ruggero Deodato was truly painstaking. In more ways than one!
Animal rights activists,local churches, young mothers and "decent" film makers everywhere wanted Deodato's head on a silver platter. ( Oops! sorry 'bout that).
But here, folks, is a man who truly marches to the beat of his own drummer. He wanted to, "drive home a point"! ( and there I go again with the puns).
The point being, The most primitive tribes could never commit atrocities
equal to that of the wars, disease and henous crimes shown every
day in the media!
Movie Review: 70's Grindhouse Film at it's Best

I was fortunate to find this in my local DVD section of the mall and just finished watching it. Needless to say that it does live up to all of the hype that it has generated over the years. It does have the point of not only going all the way....but it takes the bar,....raises it and passes it. There are those segments where you look at it and say "How did they do that?". I use that same question because of (a)How the film makers were able to get away with that much violence and make it seem real....and (b)how it was filmed because it is hard to see anything that looks faked. I'm sure there were the appropriate editing and visual effects that were there....and it was incredibly realistic.
The only downer to this is that you can tell where the overdubs and lip-synching didn't match up. I found it to be very similar to many of the spaghetti-westerns that were made. Beyond that....get this if you want the real gore and guts. Movies like this can never be remade......now we know why. On a Sick Scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being the highest....this gets a 20!!!!

Not as graphic as it was made out to be i mean come on where was the gore.
There are better movies coming out of hollywood nowadays. Even back in the 80s we had Dawn Of The Dead and The Evil Dead which were much better than this. It was more like watching the national geographic channel but it looked fake.
Movie Review: A young female vegan's nightmare!

OMG, they, like, killed and animal and ATE it! Couldn't they, like, pay someone to do it for them? Seriously though, this is an all around waste of time, lame plot, awful acting and unattractive characters, both physically and emotionally. All schlock and no shock. If you read a couple other reviews you can pretty much imagine the few violent scenes, probably more graphically than they are actually portrayed and save yourself some money. Maybe this would qualify as horror in vegitarian circles but as for the rest of us meat eaters it may just make you want to fire up the grill. Movie Review: Pretty graphic but somewhat ineffectual

I think maybe I heard or read too much hype for this "most controversial movie ever." I was set for a letdown. Not that this movie was bad, it's just that I expected something a little higher up on the brutality scale.
Here's the setup--A few reporters get a not-so-brilliant idea of organizing a jaunt into the heart of darkness. An isolated, sort of mystically savage region of evil, where a tribe of cannibals hideout in the jungle.
Of course the danger is gonna be imminent. Do you think these indigenous people-eaters are just gonna smile and give you an interview? No,no,no--when you knock on hell's door, don't be suprised when the devil answers.
Much of this movie is their lost video footage that was recovered (Blair Witch, you copycats). There is some pretty graphic rape and torture scenes. But, I've seen worse in movies, like Irreversible, Chaos, or Man Bites Dog. There really are no over-the-top moments that made me shudder.
So if your looking for some extreme vulgarity to make you scream or vomit, or something to cause irreperable brain damage, you might be let down.
It was a nice try though.
