Movie Reviews of Candyman (Special Edition)Movie Review: This film freaks me out even now! Summary: 5 Stars
The first time I saw this movie at 15 yo( I'm 30 now) it really creeped me out. I have to agree with some other reviewers saying, this was the role Tony Todd was born for. Virginia Madsen is pretty good as Helen-the classic skeptic who discovers the truth the hard way, while her husband is played by Xander Berkeley, another snobby charecter, remember Air Force One?
Even though I gave this film 5 stars, I do have a couple issues with it-primarily the skeptically stupid police force, Helen changes her tune from skeptic to believer rather quickly, too bad the police aren't that smart, but as the saying goes "seeing is believing." The other issue is the animal and child cruelty. However, I'm grateful that the cruelty was implied and quick.
Director/Writer Bernard Rose hit all the right moves, with a frightning surprise around every corner, plus Phillip Glass does an eerily effective musical score, Clive Barker had some influence on the film as executive producer, and even though I haven't seen the H.Raiser films, and honestly don't want to for personal reasons, you can tell.
I know it's just a movie, but it scared me enough not to tempt the fates.
Movie Review: WOW.........Awesome horror movie. Summary: 5 Stars
Let me start off by saying that I usually perfer smart horror (The Exorcist, Silence of the Lambs) rather than blood and sex horror (Friday the 13th, the Freddy sequels). This movie is defintely the earlier, with excellent performances and a very interesting premise. That is not to say the movie is devoid of gore, however, quite far from it. At times, this movie has plenty of gore, but not enough to make you forget the plot and characters, which is fantastic. This movie has so many good things gooing for it, awesome performances, a great villian (Tony Todd), and one of the best horror movie soundtrack ever. I do not wish to give much away, and I'm sure you know what the plot is from other reviews. I strongly reccomend this movie. Simply a horror masterpiece.
Movie Review: LOVE MY CANDYMAN Summary: 5 Stars
I loved the movie and have since I first seen it. My son that is 16yrs old is the reason I purchased the movie. I don't think that since CandyMan there hasn't been any movie that I can tell you right off the back it was SCARY! Also my son had his friends over one night around 11pm; they started watching the movie and had to turn if off because the boys were getting scared; these are highschool football players.
The bees make the movie; makes you feel once you are sleep you are going to have a dream about bees attacking you. I have also always felt that the idea of having to say Candyman 5x's, reminds me of the Bloody Mary story I heard and experienced as a kid in the early 80's
Movie Review: GREAT HORROR MOVIE Summary: 5 Stars
SO DO YOU BELIEVE IN LIFE AFTER DEATH??? IF YOU SAID NO THIS MOVIE WILL CHANGE YOUR MIND. CANDYMAN WILL LEAVE YOU SHAKING. THIS MOVIE IS NOT FOR THE EASILY SCARED. IVE LOVED THIS MOVIE SINCE I WAS A KID.
CANDYMAN IS ABOUT A MAN WHO WAS KILLED FOR ALMOST NO APPARENT REASON. MOSTLY DUE TO PREDJUDICE. HIS RIGHT HAND WAS CUT OFF WITH A RUSTY SAW WHILE HE WAS BEING STUNG TO DEATH BY 1000S OF BEES. HIS HAND WAS LATER REPLACED WITH A HOOK. THE ONE HE NOW USES TO KILL HIS "NON BELIEVERS".
SAY HIS NAME 5 TIMES IN THE MIRROR THEN TURN OFF THE LIGHTS....I DARE YA.
Movie Review: Candyman,Candyman,Candyman,Candyman,Candyman! Summary: 5 Stars
Another Barker masterpiece, Candyman is my second favorite story from Clive Barker right next to Hellraiser, and it is one of the scariest horror films of all time. Anybody that has seen a Clive Barker movie or read one of his books knows he is the master of imagination, and Candyman is no exception. It is one of the first horror films to use the urband legend theme and the only one to do it correctly in my opinion. Virginia Madsens performance is excelleent and Tony Todd plays one of the best villians in horror history. Not quite on the same level as Hellraiser, but then again, nothing really is. By far one of the best horror films of the 90's. Highly recommended.
