Movie Review: Candy Land movie fulfills all expectations!
Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased the movie for my 3-year-old who is obsessed with the boardgame. He LOVES the movie. It is not particularly well made or clever, but, then neither is the game -- and yet is is an amazing success (the game I mean). There is something about the game - and the movie - that simply engages some aspect of some children's imaginations...and, silly, though it is, I am glad the movie exists. It brings him pleasure - and that makes me happy, too.
Summary of Candy Land - The Great Lollipop Adventure
Jib, the youngest of all the gingerbread boys is about to go on the adventure of his young life... to bring Mama's special gingerbread icing to Candy Castle for the Sweet Celebration, a festival that ushers in the sweet new candies of Spring. And all Jib has to do is stay on the Rainbow Path, follow his heart, and be on time. But on his way, Jib meets Mr. Mint in the Peppermint Forest and the most fun-loving fellow in all of Candy Land. Jib tries to stay on schedule, but Mr. Mint has other, much more fun ideas!Responsibility, perseverance, and ingenuity are virtues that serve a young gingerbread boy well along a journey of self-discovery. Based on the Candy Land board game, this 55-minute animated adventure begins with a young gingerbread boy named Jib setting off toward the Candy Castle with an offering of special gingerbread icing to present to the King for the "Sweet Celebration" ceremony. At the Castle, King Kandy appoints his rather irresponsible daughter Princess Lolly to appear at the ceremony, stressing that she must bring her royal scepter to ensure the continued blossoming of everything sweet in Candy Land. Jib hurries along the colorful path to the Kingdom, meeting new friends Mr. Mint and Jolly along the way, while the sneaky Licorice Bites steal Princess Lolly's scepter to further Lord Licorice's evil plan to turn Candy Land into Licorice Land. A chance meeting between Jib and Princess Lolly leads the two to join forces against Lord Licorice, but can they possibly recover the scepter and make it to the Candy Castle in time for the celebration? Five original songs add musical fun to a fanciful adventure that offers a cute story to accompany a whole new generation's journey to Candy Land. (Ages 3 to 7) --Tami Horiuchi
