Movie Reviews of Calle 54

Movie Review: Absolutely wonderful...Awsome production values!
Summary: 5 Stars

What a great disc! The visual quality is as good as any DVD out there, the sound seems even better than the sound track CD, and behind it all is the music. What wonderful music it is, full of artists that are legendary and a few I had not heard of. There are such gems to discover in this film, from the stunning flute solos of Dave Valentin to the beautifully understated piano of Elaine Elias to the poetic and magical scenes featuring Bebo Valdes. The last scene with both Chuchu and Bebo Valdes rises to such a poetic level that it brought tears to my eyes as I watched it. This is must-see viewing (ans listening), not only for lovers of Latin Jazz, but for anyone who loves Jazz in any way!

Movie Review: Amazing music, good fun
Summary: 5 Stars

I saw this with no expectations. I had a free pass to see it in theaters and went on a rainy Tuesday night when I had nothing else to do. I walked out with a smile on my face and a dance in my feet.

What can I say? The performances were amazing and the narration brief but giving sufficient background on the artists. In the theater, we found ourselves clapping after the performances, forgetting it wasn't live. At one point, I looked behind me and a middle-aged couple was dancing in the back of the theater! You can't get a better recommendation than that.

Get this DVD and cherish it. Play the soundtrack in your car or in your office. Let it liven up your life.

Movie Review: A music lover's dream movie
Summary: 5 Stars

Director Fernando Trueba's eye for composition and passion for music yield a true sonic and visual feast for music fans. The movie features an awesome collection of the very best Latin Jazz musicians--Chucho Valdez, Michel Camilo, Tito Puente QEPD, among many others--each performing a terrific song with a truly outstanding dolby 5.1 soundtrack. The sound is absolutely gorgeous...as close to listening to a live performance as you will ever get. Included is a spellbinding performance by the sultry Brazilian pianist Eliane Elias that swept me off my feet. A must have for any Jazz or Latin music fan.

Movie Review: They wrote the book!!!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

This film is a master's work put together by a truely gifted film maker. The artists performing are the parents of the art form. I cried almost all the way through the film. The performances by Paquito, Chano & Michel are simply magnificent! Then as if that were not enough, Chucho & Bebo Valdez will simply throw you on the floor. This is a collector's item especially with the passings of Tito & Chico Farrell. Remarkably absent is Arturo. Even so this is a must have!!! "Tito will be missed.....to see this film is a miracle". I hope you all love it as much as I do.

Movie Review: a billion 5 Stars

Bravo! Bravo! As my 3 year old daughter would say after watching Tito Puento, Tito's rocking out! Yes Tito does rock out. So do Bebo and Chucho(her fvaorite). The CD is incredible. We watch it over and over. My little three year old is hooked on Bebo and Chucho. I love Fort Apache, Michael Camilo and so many more of the musicians. It is just a great album period!, latin or not.
