Movie Reviews of Calamity Jane

Movie Review: Top-notch Doris Day musical
Summary: 5 Stars

"Calamity Jane" is a wonderful film, made three years after the similarly plotted "Annie Get Your Gun." "Calamity Jane," however, is by far the superior film. Doris Day is perfect in the role of the tomboyish title character. She handles a physically demanding role with great charm and serves up a collection of great songs, including "The Deadwood Stage," "The Black Hills of Dakota," "Just Got in From the Windy City," and the Academy Award-winning Best Song, "Secret Love." Co-star Howard Keel is good, but it's Day's picture all the way. Day made lots of pictures for Warner Brothers during this period, but this is one of her very best.

Movie Review: My all time favorite
Summary: 5 Stars

This Movie is My all time favorite movie and I have seen a lot.I've seen it 54 times in about two months. The overall plot is about A tomboy (Calamity Jane) and her love/hate relationship between her and wild Bill, and her love intrest Danny Gilmartin ,but when she brings Katie Brown from chicago troubles starts when Danny Falls in Love with her.Calamity soon relizes who it is she really loves.
Im not great at writing but I hope this kind of sums up the movie. It is a 5 star movie.EVERYBODY SHOULD OWN A COPY.
You won't be dissapointed, that's a promise.

Movie Review: Whip Crack Away Great Movie
Summary: 5 Stars

I remembered seeing this movie when I was younger and remembered bits and pieces of all the great songs, Whip Crack Away, Just Got In From The Windy City, Black Hills of Dakota, etc. When my daughter was born I sang the songs to her and finally one rainy Sunday we watched it on AMC, she fell in love with the movie and went around the house in a diaper and beat-up cowboy hat singing the songs. I had the VHS version for years and recently bought the DVD, it arrived fast and at 56 and 19 years of age we still love singing the songs together!

Movie Review: super
Summary: 5 Stars

So much fun. My 90+ mother and I enjoyed this movie and giggled all through it. Doris Day and a western all in one. This one is not the typical Doris and kids against all odds. She is a free and wild single not even looking for romance but finds it anyway. Set in the Dakotas in the early days of expansion, Doris is an Annie Oakly type. She is viewed as one-of-the-guys until she goes to Chicago to find an actress to entertain the town's men. She has a few difficulties with this and ends up with a substitute. Very funny, a classic musical.

Movie Review: awesome!
Summary: 5 Stars

Even though I was born almost 20 years after it was released, I have to say that I love this movie. I've been looking for Calamity Jane on DVD since I first saw it on video.
Perfect for Doris Day fans. She has such a beautiful voice. So many songs to sing along to- I especially adore "Secret Love"!
Wonderful to see a young Philip Carey (One Life to Live's Asa Buchannan) work.
A little P.I. but you have to take into consideration the time it was filmed.
I highly recommend it!
