Movie Reviews of Cabin in the Sky

Movie Review: A Wonderful movie.... a treasure on DVD!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I had 2 vhs copies of this movie, just in case one got lost or missplaced. I'm so glad it's now on DVD. Since others have discussed the plot, I will add that this movie could be made today
with a few changes to eliminate the frequent sterotypes and updating it. This could be made like a Tupac Shakur type story. He was shot once and after a while he was shot again, ending his life. There are more than a few similarities. Anyway enjoy the movie again and think of Tupac as a modern Joe.

Movie Review: Cabin in the Sky
Summary: 5 Stars

For as old as this film is its transfer is excellent to DVD.The picture and sound is very good indeed!Although it type casts a lot of Afro Americans in role not nessarily indicative of reality of that time or any other time The joy in having this film is the wonderfull performances of such magnitude as Lena Horne, Eddie Rochester and of course the fabulous Ethel Waters, who was a star performer for Billy Graham with her voice and her wonderfull christian testamony!

Movie Review: DVD Cabin in the sky
Summary: 5 Stars

"Cabin in the sky" is a classic movie that is beautifully acted, sung and performed. It is an all black cast of very talented actors and singers. The story is a classic about "Little Joe Jackson" who wants to be good but doesn't always succeed. Good versus evil. I have added it to my personal DVD Collection. I like to view it now and then and it remains a powerful story.

Movie Review: Great B & W film for B & W audiences!
Summary: 5 Stars

It's a black-and-white film for black-and-white audiences. An excellent all-black film. Rochester [Jack Benny's pal] is great as Little Joe, the guy who finds it difficult to be good. Slow in parts but enjoyable. An interesting thing is a dancing scene where for 3 seconds you see some moon-walking - 60 years before Michael Jackson "invented" it. Lena Horne is very, very cute.

Movie Review: Great Early Jazz!
Summary: 5 Stars

I recently caught the end of this on TCM and wanted to see the complete movie. I love Louis Armstrong, Lena Horn and any of the great early jazz artists. Lots of these "race" movies have not been shown because of the fear of offending someone. We lose many great performances because of this.
This is a tribute to all the actors in it and I wish there were more.
