Movie Reviews of C.H.U.D.

Movie Review: The Benefits of DVD
Summary: 3 Stars

I won't pretend that CHUD is as good a film as Seven Samurai, or The Battle of Algiers, but their is a kind of love affair tht develops between viewers and this film with seemingly very little going for it. The cast is actually quite strong (see other reviews) and the effects are campy, and gimmiky (sp?) but that isn't why you'll like this film. Through several viewings, over several years I tried to figure out what in this strange little movie appealed to me. When the local Mediaplay went out of business I found CHUD in a bin for about 95% off and snatched it up. I got my answer from the commentary. Without a doubt, the commentry for this film is one of the best I've ever heard. Just listen and you'll see why everyone loves CHUD. The humor, the heartache, the-- Okay, it isn't the Dead Sea Scrolls, but it is almost more entertaining that the film. This is the one and only time I've invited a friend to listen the commentary, rather than watch the film. Enjoy.

Movie Review: I was hoping for less talking and more action.
Summary: 3 Stars

C.H.U.D. reminded me a lot of BREEDERS except that C.H.U.D. didn't suck it long and suck it hard like BREEDERS. The idea of radioactive waste turning homeless people into slimy monsters is great but 32 minutes doesn't need to go by before we even see a C.H.U.D. in action.

After the long build up the C.H.U.D.'s finally do get busy and funky and start chasing people with gusto (whatever that means...I heard it on "Futurama"). One even chases some poor broad around her apartment in the best scene of the movie.

Interesting for one viewing, but there's too much time devoted to police work and city politics and not enough C.H.U.D.ding going on.

Look for a young John Goodman as the ill-fated cop in the diner massacre scene...the massacre was off-camera by the way.

Movie Review: A pretty good 80's horror flick
Summary: 3 Stars

I originally saw this movie when I was a kid. I remember it scaring the crap out of me and really enjoying it. So one day I'm checking out the horror section at a video story and come across it on DVD. So I buy it, go home and put it in the DVD player. Not as good as I remeber it but still a lot of fun and worthy of buying.

The only real problem I have with the movie is the idea of how these monsters came to be. Just a little farfetched. Now I know that horror movies by there very nature tend to not be grounded in reality, but this one was just a little less believable then others. That aside, it was a truly fun movie and I would have to recommend it a any horror fan.

Movie Review: *Just Okay!*
Summary: 3 Stars

This movie was okay.It had more talking and less action. But it is a movie from the 80's so I did want to see it.Just don't expect anything special.

Movie Review: A real stinker...
Summary: 2 Stars

I like craptastic movies as much as the next guy, but this was a turd pure and simple. They barely show the "Dwellers" throughout the movie. It's a pantheon of actors who were braking there way in at the time. I give it two stars because I hear the commentary is supposed to be really funny, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. If you want to feel like a fool, buy this movie, otherwise netflix baby!
