Movie Reviews of By Dawn's Early LightMovie Review: Old fashioned cold-war drama with current world-situation simularities Summary: 5 Stars
I remember seeing this movie when it originally aired . Good acting, good special effects (for its time, that is)It's amazing how this situation could actually occur during our present world situation. There has been incidences of "compromised" nuclear materials. Now Iran and North Korea among others are rapidly becoming nuclear-active. They say that movies are a reflection of real life. Who knew they could be prolific as well. Enjoy. My favorite saying from the movie..."Them ain't bogies, thems bandits!"...Powers Boothe
Movie Review: COLD WAR HEATS UP Summary: 5 Stars
If you grew up during the "Cold War" period with the USSR, this movie is a great reminder of the feeling one carried back then that something just around the corner could go wrong. I think the actors convey those feelings, especially the air crew on the B-52 that gets its orders to take the "grand tour." Just a great film, and as an added bonus, seeing Darren McGavin as the Secretary of the Interior going full-out Alexander Haig ("I'm in charge now" when Prez Reagan was shot in 1981, remember?) is really great.
Movie Review: Great movie Summary: 5 Stars
By Dawn's Early Light is a great movie about nuclear war, morality and the human condition. James Earl Jones, as always, is one of the more dynamic characters in the movie. The movie is about the struggle between doing what is strong, and what is correct. It was made for TV so is only available in standard def. Cinematography isn't amazing but it isn't bad.
For the price it's worth watching at least once.
Movie Review: Excellent! Summary: 5 Stars
I was pleasantly surprised by the execution of the plot, and perfectly cast actors. Especially the Powers Booth and Rebecca De Mornay interaction in the cockpit of the B-52.
Fits in well with the other Soviet era doomsday thrillers (e.g. Failsafe, On The Beach).
Buy used and you will not be disappointed.
Movie Review: DVD review - BY DAWN's EARLY LIGHT Summary: 5 Stars
This movie is better than most of those I've ever seen in theaters - it was made for HBO Films. I've never seen anything "bad" with Rebecca DeMornay, who has never gotten the attention she has earned. Also, James Earl Jones is, as always, simply awesome. This one has ZERO bad performances and the topic is still quite relevant.
