Movie Reviews of Burnt Offerings

Movie Review: true terror without modern gore or torture
Summary: 5 Stars

What's best about this film is that it is truly frightening on a very visceral and personal level, but without the disgusting gore and torture that passes for horror so often these days. No chainsaws, no hostels, no saws in Burnt Offerings. Just a family being preyed upon by an evil house and its evil owners. Fewer scenes are more frightening than the one in the swimming pool, when the father becomes possessed and nearly drowns his son. Family turning against family is a far worse thought, to me, than maniacs running around in the woods with chainsaws.

Movie Review: Still scary today!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I remember seeing this as a young girl and being very frightened by it, now being an adult....it was just as scary!! Your just waiting for the freaky driver to pop out of your closet after watching this movie....or hear the music box playing. I love a horror that can scare you without the over the top violence and gore. CREEPY!!

Movie Review: Excellent
Summary: 5 Stars

This is one of the scariest movies I`ve ever seen that doesn`t use a lot of special affects. The acting was superb and the way it was done with the camera angles just made the film so effective. It`s one you can watch over and over again and not get tired of. It proves you do not need a lot of heads flying to hold your attention.

Movie Review: Excellent Print. Memorable Film and Great Audio Commentary.
Summary: 5 Stars

The commentary by Karen Black is very insightful. Dan Curtis seems at times a bit impatient with some of the questions put to him but that only adds to the enjoyment of this feature. The film itself looks fantastic and it is hard to believe that Karen was five months pregnant when she filmed it!

Movie Review: Burnt Offerings
Summary: 5 Stars

this movie is definitely a classic. the actors are seasoned enough to make you believe the plot. Karen Black is as always superb. the ending was just what you would expect. i thoroughly enjoyed it and would watch it again.
